The SGS Production Superintendent is a critical role responsible for coordinating all elements of production at SGS’s Dixon manufacturing locations. As part of the SGS leadership team the SGS Production Superintendent works with SGS functional leadership and site supervisors to ensure on time completion and delivery of customer orders. Critical to this role is the ability to coordinate production, and shipping activities in line with SGS safety, quality, service, delivery, and cost expectations. This role also works with site resources to identify Continuous Improvement opportunities as well as other overall site improvements. This role is essential to SGS’s growth aspiration to double the size of its operations over the next 18 – 24 months.

In addition to production oversite, the SGS Production Superintendent is responsible for driving excellence in several critical operational areas including:

This position leads approximately 50 team members at SGS’s Dixon Illinois operations, including material management, daily production, logistics as well as equipment and facility maintenance with the aim of driving performance improvements and capacity expansion. These operations are spread across two facilities located approximately 2 miles apart.

The ideal candidate will be a growth-oriented operations leader with demonstrated track record of driving improvement through day to day management, continuous improvement practices, and longer term facility planning. A candidate with experience in Lean and 80/20 continuous improvement principles is strongly preferred. Candidate can also expect professional growth both with SGS and SPX Corporation more broadly, as this role is an excellent stepping stone towards a plant manager role at SGS or other SPX production facilities.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive a safety first culture; continuously improves and ensures compliance with all safety procedures
  • Oversee material management, production, inventory control, shipping, and maintenance
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality, delivery and cost
  • Manage production budget to ensure high level product quality at pragmatic cost
  • Lead performance management for plant employees; identifies and addresses areas of needed coaching and guidance
  • Identify long term planning needs geared towards enhanced operations; manage capital projects once approved
  • Ensure predictable and on time delivery of good and services
  • Ensure delivery of SGS quality expectations, in line with defined standards
  • Comply with all applicable state and federal environmental and safety regulations and enforces local policies
  • Partner with site leadership to develop, implement, and effectively communicate business metrics and goals to all team members
  • Develop and implement a succession planning program for site level operational resources
  • Share responsibility for continued improvement of positive culture as it relates to site morale and turnover initiatives
  • Manage business projects and initiatives through effective delegation and mentoring


Education, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in mechanical or industrial engineering, industrial management, or a related discipline
  • 7+ years of plant operations/management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead continuous improvements
  • Previous experience in manufacturing highly engineered, custom products
  • Previous experience building positive development oriented organizational cultures

  • Plant supervision leadership experience
  • Material Management oversite experience
  • Familiarly with best in class production planning and scheduling
  • Formal exposure to process improvement methodologies
  • Exposure to best in class maintenance processes and methodologies

 Industry Sector and Company Experience

  • Manufacturing industry experience, specifically with highly engineered, custom products preferred
