Job Summary

The Quality Engineer is responsible for establishing and maintaining a professional proactive relationship between all departments with the focus for implementing Sustainable, Root Cause Corrective Action to improve our product quality and customer interaction with our products. The incumbent will have the responsibility to engage the entire organization from customer order through product delivery (order fulfillment process) to ensure continuous improvement of processes and product quality. This person will be the lead contact concerning customer quality and responsible for obtaining complete problem resolution with the goal of zero defects through continuously improving the product quality and internal processes. In addition, this individual will be responsible for monitoring key performance indicators (KPI’s) and actively working with Operations, Engineering, and Supplier Quality on corrective actions to obtain stated departmental goals.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Leads problem solving initiatives to improve quality of processes, products and components as a result of internal/external findings, customer complaints, Fail on Install and warranty analyses. Perform joint analysis of complex problems with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality and other departments as needed, to determine and implement root cause corrective action
  • Maintains process for tracking corrective action sustainability after implementation.
  • Develops and issues reports on quality measurements to the organization by maintaining Key Performance Indicators (KPI) spreadsheets/databases.
  • Engaged with New Product Development, Sustaining and Manufacturing Engineering in developing high quality designs and processes during New Product Development Launches and VAVE initiatives.
  • Conducts Layered Process Audits (LPA’s) on corrective action to ensure sustainability. 
  • Assists with the Quality System maintenance.
  • Provides technical guidance and/or assistance as required by the business.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Knowledge

  • B.S. in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing) or Associate Degree In Technical Field.
  • Ability to read blueprints and measure parts with quality hand tools (caliper, micrometer, thread gages, etc.)
  • ASQ Certification a plus – CQM, CQA, CQE preferred.
  • Six Sigma certified is a plus

Professional Experience:

  • Must have min. 5 years’ experience in Engineering/Quality in a manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to work cross functionally with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated leadership ability and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to think critically, anticipating/recognizing problems and resolving in a timely manner and executing RCCA in a timely manner.
  • Possess a general working knowledge of automotive or industrial manufacturing quality tools: AIAG, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plan, 8D, MSA and Statistical Process Control (SPC) standards.
  • Knowledgeable with hands-on experience in the application of Lean and Six Sigma including the following tools: Value Stream Mapping, Cpk/Ppk, GR&R, Sampling Plans, Kaizen, 5S, Statistical Analysis, 5 why’s, Root Cause analysis, VOC, QFD, Error Proofing, Robust Design, Cause and Effect Diagrams, Pareto Analysis, etc.
  • Must be proficient in Outlook, MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint.
