Quality Technician - Warranty

This is a position with WM Technologies, LLC and affiliate of SPX Enterprises, LLC, which manufactures and sells Weil-McLain branded products. Weil-McLain is a leading North American brand of hydronic comfort heating systems for residential, commercial, and institutional buildings since 1881. 

How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. The Warranty Quality Technician will execute the warranty for customer service and communicate with Quality, Customer Service and RGA to ensure support for the processing of returned product, collaborate with RGA technician and disseminate information to Quality for evaluation and root cause analysis.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

· Safety / Environmental

1. Quality Technicians are expected to adhere to all safety protocols and to wear the prescribed PPE for their assigned duties which will include, at a minimum, safety glasses and steel-toed shoes.

2. Chemicals and substances which are listed on SDS are to be properly handled in accordance with OSHA regulations.

3. Respect for personal safety, safety of personnel and environmental awareness are required skillsets.

· Verbal / Written Communication

 

1 Contribute to the authoring, revision, and approval of Quality Inspection documentation including SOPs, change controls, and deviations.

2 Comfortable with computer usage in order to obtain drawings, documents and verify information in JDE and Propel.

· Soft Skillsets / EQ

 

1 Must be a consummate team player. Good communicator with exceptional organizational and time management skills.

2 Demonstratable skills in areas: leadership, character, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, mindfulness, growth mindset, and fortitude. Customer service, confidentiality, integrity, and a commitment to quality while delivering reliable and consistent onsite work.

3 Mature and able to make independent decisions within defined scope of work, seeks clarification and direction when needed. Must be self-driven and demonstrate ability to work with little direction if required.

4 Results oriented; ultimately this is a job position in which the perspective hire is expected to evolve careerwise from a baseline skillset into a position of expertise which provides support for the manufacturing floor, reduces nonconformances and creates a relationship of trust and respect between Quality and Manufacturing.

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

· Verifiable OJT or Quality experience over 4 years may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Preferred Technical Skillsets

· Warranty Quality Technicians will have to attain a focused core skillset in the following areas: allocation, processing and tracking warranty claims for returned products, field failures and freight claims for repairs, replacement or restock. The Warranty Quality Technician will assist with inspecting, testing, and analyzing root causes of failure with the Quality team.

· The WQT will bridge Quality and Customer Service by documenting findings, determining warranty eligibility and providing feedback to Manufacturing and Quality teams to reduce future defects. The Warranty Quality Technician will be expected to have a competent understanding of product specifications, testing/diagnostic tools and operational requirements.

· In addition to Warranty responsibilities, the WQT will be eventually assigned to commercial base and block areas Quality Technician duties and required to assist inspection and process returned material on dock so that the return is processed efficiently and allocated to the correct hold area. The Warranty Quality Technician will assist as needed the Quality Technician in the Lab.

· Quality Technicians will be expected to become quality subject matter experts for their particular area. First piece inspection, roving inspection at set intervals, final inspection, incoming material inspection, assist set-up as needed. As the SME, you will train employees in quality inspection procedures and ensure the employee participation in the day-to-day inspection process.

· Calibration – Must understand calibration concepts and how to identify calibration on calibrated gear within the building. Required to understand the implications of not having calibrated equipment and how that could potentially affect quality and the reaction plan that must occur to prevent quality spills.

· Nice to have - Has some basic GD&T, MSA, SPC training/knowledge. Must be willing to be trained in these areas since organization has intentions of attaining an internal QMS in the future and these skillsets will be required.

Education & Certifications

· Two-year degree in Engineering, Electronics, other related technical field or equivalent military training, trade school, and two years of applicable (Metrology, Instrumentation, Calibration) experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working Environment

· Required to sit regularly; stand / walk for prolonged periods of time. May occasionally be required to pull, lift or move up to 50 pounds. Position may require working holidays, weekends and overtime depending on manufacturing operations.
