This is a position with WM Technologies, LLC and affiliate of SPX Enterprises, LLC, which manufactures and sells Weil-McLain® branded products. Weil-McLain® is a leading North American brand of hydronic comfort heating systems for residential, commercial, and institutional buildings since 1881.
How you will make an impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As an Electric Melt Operator, you will play a crucial role in managing and operating the melting process at our facility. Your responsibilities will include preparing and handling materials, operating machinery and cranes, and ensuring the efficient transfer of molten metal. You will monitor equipment controls, perform routine maintenance and refractory repairs, and prepare ladles and scrap materials for re-melt. This position requires a strong focus on quality, safety, and teamwork to maintain smooth production processes and achieve operational goals. Your attention to detail and adherence to procedures will directly contribute to the production of high-quality materials and support the overall efficiency of our manufacturing operations.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
- Material Preparation and Handling
- Load and unload trucks using the Charge Makeup Crane & Pre-heater.
- Break up scrap into usable sizes and load the hopper with proper ingredients and specified weights.
- Weigh and add alloys as required.
- Crush scrap materials (castings and gating) to usable sizes for re-melting.
- Record weights and monitor controls for alarms during material preparation.
- Furnace and Melt Operations
- Operate furnace controls, including igniting and shutting off the burner system.
- Transfer charge buckets to the furnace and empty contents.
- Slag furnaces and ladles, transfer melt materials from the floor to the furnace deck, and monitor furnace operations for alarms.
- Dispatch hot melt carriers, pour the proper amount of iron into ladles, and transfer iron to holding furnaces.
- Take iron and temperature samples to ensure quality standards are met.
- Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform refractory repairs on melt furnace spouts, slag lines, lids, slag doors, sample doors, launder doors, and ladles.
- Rebuild and repair ladles as needed.
- Prepare ladles for pouring by filling, checking temperature, adding chill if necessary, and positioning for pickup.

Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous manufacturing experience (Preferred)
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Ability to lift 50-75lbs
- Must be able to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods, as required by the job.
- Requires the use of appropriate safety precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) due to potential hazards associated with machinery or chemicals.
