This is a position with WM Technologies, LLC and affiliate of SPX Enterprises, LLC, which manufactures and sells Weil-McLain®  branded products. Weil-McLain® is a leading North American brand of hydronic comfort heating systems for residential, commercial, and institutional buildings since 1881. 

 

How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As the Operations Director you will be responsible for overseeing our Michigan City, IN facility with focus on manufacturing operations in the Foundry Plant. This Senior Leadership position involves ensuring the efficient production of high-quality products, managing production schedules, optimizing processes, and leading the operations team. You will work closely with other departments to align manufacturing goals with the company’s strategic objectives.

 

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
 

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Strategic Planning and Production Management
  • Develop and implement manufacturing strategies that support company objectives.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
  • Lead and manage the operations team to achieve production goals.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to set long-term manufacturing goals and objectives.
  • Oversee all manufacturing operations, ensuring efficient and timely production of products.
  • Develop and manage production schedules to meet customer demand and company targets.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Identify potential risks in the manufacturing process and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing safety policies and procedures.
  • Oversee inventory management to minimize waste and reduce costs.
  • Develop and manage the manufacturing budget, controlling costs while optimizing resources.
  • Analyze financial data related to manufacturing operations and make informed decisions.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising product quality.

 

  1. Team Leadership and Development
  • ​​​​​​​Recruit, train, and develop staff.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment that encourages teamwork and professional growth.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop department heads and other key staff.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive work environment that encourages collaboration and innovation.
  • Evaluate performance and provide feedback to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
     

3.  Quality and Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain high standards of quality throughout the manufacturing   process.
  • Implement quality control procedures and conduct regular audits.
  • Address and resolve any quality issues promptly and effectively.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and lead initiatives to   enhance efficiency.
    • Implement lean manufacturing practices and continuous improvement methodologies.
    • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and use data to drive operational improvements.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements.
    • Implement new technologies and automation to improve manufacturing processes.
    • Drive innovation in product development and manufacturing techniques.

 

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

 

Required Experience

  •  Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and strategic planning skills.
  • Proficiency in manufacturing software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Strong financial acumen and budget management skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.

 

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience managing within a unionized environment.

 

Education & Certifications

  •  Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

 

Travel & Working Environment

  • Occasional travel requirements.
  • The role involves frequent work in a non-climate controlled, safety-sensitive manufacturing and foundry environment with heavy equipment.
  • May require extended hours during peak production periods or to address urgent issues.
