This opportunity is for our Electric Heat business. Electric Heat is a trusted leader in electric heating and ventilation solutions for commercial, industrial, and residential applications. Backed by the strength of ASPEQ Heating Group and Marley Engineered Products, we offer a wide range of standard and customized products through leading brands like QMark, Indeeco, Berko, and Brasch.

How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Lab Technician, you will be responsible for the fabrication, examination, and testing of electrical heating systems and/or components related to electric heating and controls. You will collaborate closely with the Engineering and R&D teams to develop prototypes, execute tests, and maintain a safe and efficient lab environment. Your expertise will help ensure product quality, innovation, and performance excellence across ASPEQ heating solutions.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Equipment Assembly & Fabrication
  • Assemble, modify, and install electrical heating systems and components in accordance with engineering specifications.
  • Assist in sheet metal fabrication, welding, or machining for prototype builds (when applicable).
  • Assist Engineering and R&D with prototype design, fabrication, and testing activities.
  1. Testing & Experimentation
  • Prepare, set up, and conduct laboratory experiments, ensuring compliance with safety protocols—particularly high-voltage precautions.
  • Operate electrical test equipment, interpret engineering drawings, and follow wiring schematics for testing and troubleshooting.
  • Prepare accurate, detailed test reports and maintain organized records of all test activities.
  1. Laboratory Operations & Maintenance
  • Support the management and upkeep of the lab facility, including tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve technical issues and improve testing processes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of proprietary information and adhere to company policies.

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a laboratory environment with exposure to high-voltage electrical equipment.
  • Proven ability to assemble and test complex mechanical/electrical systems.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Word.
  • Strong understanding of electrical test equipment, engineering drawings, and wiring schematics.
  • Hands-on experience with sheet metal fabrication, welding, or machine shop operations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve technical challenges promptly.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with a focus on clear, accurate documentation.

Education & Certifications

  • Associate’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent relevant work experience.

Travel & Working Environment

  • Some travel may be required to manufacturing facilities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs to prepare and handle testing equipment.
  • Work is primarily conducted in a laboratory setting with occasional exposure to manufacturing environments.
