How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX Technologies is looking for a service-first, technical, and detail-orientated Benefits Program Manager to join the team! You will play an essential role in supporting the growing and evolving strategic and operational needs of the Employee Benefits function. Reporting to the Benefits Director, the Benefits Program and Compliance Manager will execute SPX’s benefits portfolio by partnering with Third Party Administrator vendor partners to maintain the administration of our benefit plans and resolve escalated issues; collaborate with department and internal customers to ensure alignment with our strategies; identify potential operating control risks, cost containment solutions and opportunities for continuous process improvement and any associated action plans for correction/improvement; create communications; educate all stakeholders on program requirements; maintain accurate records in benefits system; facilitate open enrollment process; and address employee escalations in a timely manner.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
1. Benefit Administration
- Provide primary oversight on plan design, management and administration of the employee health and welfare benefits.
- Manage the open enrollment process, including communications, systems updates, employee training and education, and vendor management.
- Work with HRIS and Payroll teams to ensure benefits administration is operating effectively, including updates due to modifications in plans and working with IT to manage carrier file feeds as needed.
- Manage vendors and provide feedback regarding performance. Keeps senior leadership informed of any issues.
- Serve as M&A lead on benefits integrations for new partners, including benefits comparisons, benefits education, etc.
- Install approved new plans or changes to existing plans by developing or revising procedures, forms, and related training.
- Manage Benefit brokers and other third-party solution providers, as necessary.
2. Compliance and Regulatory
- Ensure benefits administration is in alignment with company policies and federal and state guidelines. Drives policy enhancement while ensuring legal compliance.
- Maintain benefit documentation for all carriers (contracts, invoices, COBRA, employee benefit guides, standard operating procedures), ensure filing of 5500's and SARs, and distribution of benefit summaries as required.
- Ensure company compliance with Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other laws & regulations affecting company benefit programs.
- Supervise the preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, such as the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies.
- Serve as the Company’s HIPAA Privacy Officer and chair our Benefit Appeals Committee meetings.
3. Design and Financial Stewardship
- Support the design, development, and execution of benefit programs and initiatives by managing the implementation of tools, systems, and programs; building buy-in across HR and business partners.
- In collaboration with our benefits broker and Benefits Director, design, develop, and implement benefits solutions that are aligned with SPX’s strategy and are competitive with the external market.
- Improve programs to meet business needs within budget.
- Monitor administrative costs of benefits programs and recommend cost containment strategies, including alternative methods for administration and funding.
4. Collaboration and Team Building

- Respond to team member requests and inquiries for information, assistance, support, and resources regarding benefits and wellness initiatives.
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
- 5 -10 years of experience in employee benefit administration
- Solid knowledge of U.S. Benefit Laws and Requirements
- Experience managing 3rd party benefit vendors.
- Microsoft Office Suite fluent
- Important are soft skills and the ability to be personal, and provide support and empathy for SPX Technologies employees.
- Basic knowledge and/or interest in International Benefits, a plus but not required.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree
- CEBS certification a plus
