JOB SUMMARY

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer II to join our team in the development of hydronic boilers. As a Mechanical Engineer II, you will play a key role in designing, analyzing, and optimizing the mechanical systems and components of our hydronic boilers. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to ensure the successful development and launch of high-quality products. In addition, you will design, test, and develop product and product components following company and industry standards while assisting in the supervision of laboratory activities for assigned projects.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Design and develop mechanical systems and components for hydronic boilers, including heat exchangers, combustion chambers, pumps, valves, and controls, following company and industry standards.
  • Conduct detailed analysis, simulations, and calculations to evaluate and optimize the performance, efficiency, and durability of boiler components.
  • Collaborate with the R&D team to define product requirements, specifications, and design goals for hydronic boilers.
  • Create 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD software, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
  • Work with design personnel on the detailed layout, prints, parts specifications, and bill of materials for the product.
  • Develop non-routine test methods, instrumentation, and procedures not covered by recognized Approval Agency requirements or rating codes.
  • Analyze and interpret test data, making design modifications if necessary, to meet product performance and safety requirements.
  • Conduct product and component testing in accordance with recognized approval agency requirements and codes, such as UL, ANSI/ASHRAE, AHRI, and/or CSA.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring timely completion of activities related to product design and development.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Product Engineering teams to formulate and update product design specifications.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to other departments, including Product Compliance, Lab Supervisor, Plant Manufacturing Engineering Team, Product Managers, and Commodity Managers.
  • Identify potential technical improvements to existing products/processes/services or cost reductions.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the development, maintenance, and update of DFMEAs, and assist in the development of PFMEAs and Process Control Plans.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies in hydronic heating systems and boiler design.
  • Mentor engineering team members on core engineering principles/practices and assist in their professional growth.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, specifically in the design and development of hydronic boilers or similar heating systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) for 3D modeling.
  • Familiarity with regulatory approval agency requirements, including UL, ANSI/ASHRAE, AHRI, and/or CSA.
  • Working knowledge of project management principles and experience in product lifecycle management.
  • Strong understanding of combustion, heat transfer, and hydronics principles.
  • Experience in appliance design and knowledge of control theory.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, such as JDE, and product lifecycle management systems, such as Propel/Windchill, is a plus.
