How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Mechanical Engineer I, you will play a key role in the design, analysis, and optimization of mechanical systems and components for our hydronic boilers. You will collaborate closely with engineering peers and cross-functional teams, including R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality to ensure the successful development and launch of high-quality products. What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
- Design and Development:
- Design, test and develop mechanical systems and various components adhering to company and industry standards such as hydronic boilers, heat exchangers, pumps, valves and controls.
- Contribute to innovation, continuous improvement, and product reliability through engineering best practices.
- Analyze and interpret test data, making design modifications, if necessary, to meet product performance and safety requirements.
- Work with designers on the detailed layout, prints, parts specifications, and bill of materials for the product.
- Create 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD software, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
- Project Management and Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the R&D team to define product requirements, specifications, and design goals for assigned projects.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring timely completion of activities related to product design and development.
- Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Engineering teams to formulate and update product design specifications.
- Provide technical support and assistance to other departments as needed and for assigned projects.
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
- 2 to 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering or product development, specifically in the design and development of boilers or similar heating systems is a plus.
- Working knowledge and proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) for 3D modeling.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex technical issues and provide solutions.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
- Experience with product testing, validation, and compliance with regulatory standards, such as ASME, CSA, and ANSI
- Experience with boiler control systems, automation, and Internet of Things (IOT) technologies is a plus.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Travel & Working Environment
- Work in an office environment, able to use a computer, provide oral and written communication.
- Manufacturing Environment frequently requires use of foot and eye protection when in production areas.
