Associate Engineer - Product Development

How you will make an Impact (Job Summary) 

 

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As an Associate Engineer- Product Development, you will be responsible for identifying and investigating conceptual product ideas and performing necessary research, engineering, and design to bring finished products to the marketplace.  Key success criteria include engineering application and design experience, technical skills, sound engineering and business judgment, good communication skills, initiative and innovation. 

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities) 

 

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be: 

 

  • Develop designs and solid models of new product designs
  • Complete product performance selections
  • Interface with internal and external customers regarding technical performance issues
  • Manage projects and schedule tasks
  • Review, approve, and control vendor-supplied engineering documents
  • Develop solutions to problems and new designs
  • Write engineering specifications for product lines and components
  • Conduct product testing during development and post-installation in order to verify software and data development

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education) 

 

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has: 

 

Required Experience 

  • up to 5 years of engineering experience

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Training and experience with solids-based CAD/CAM software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • EIT preferred
  • Basic understanding of HVAC design and application of mechanical components such as fans, dampers, louvers, gearboxes, motors, couplings, and other related mechanical equipment a plus.
  • Demonstrated competence in utilizing engineering skills and knowledge
  • Accountability for one’s own work, but requiring daily or weekly oversight
  • Highly creative
  • Strong ability to visualize complex spatial geometry
  • Passionate about product development
  • Persistent and patient enough to work on projects for which results are not seen for long periods of time

Education & Certifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in an mechanical engineering

Travel & Working Environment 

  • Minimal travel (<10%) that includes visits to other facilities, vendors and training
