How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Quality Manager, you will responsible for managing the personnel and quality systems to ensure (a) the products coming from suppliers meet the required drawing requirements and/or standards, (b) products assembled internally and by suppliers and then shipped to customers meet internal and customer functional/quality requirements, and (c) root cause of internal, supplier and customer quality problems are identified, and corrective actions put in place and verified as effective.  The position works across all functions to ensure current processes meet the ISO 9000 quality standard.  This is an 100% on-site role.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Leading Overall Quality
  • Monitor quality related KPIs
  • Create mitigation plans when measures consistently miss target and/or trend negative.  Include supplier score card
  • Keep upper management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and actions being taken to improve the situation
  • Formulate Quality department strategic and operational objectives
  • Manage department budgets and forecasts
  • Review and reports the status of the Quality Management System to upper management

 

  1. Leading the Incoming Inspection, 1100 test (functional, module and processor testing) and 1500 test (system functional testing) teams and their activities. 
    • Oversee quality systems, processes, and infrastructure assuring practices are consistent, and processes are followed while looking for opportunities of improvement or revision.
    • Directly supervise ten to fifteen employees. Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, and training employee, planning, assigning, and disciplining employees; addressing concerns and resolving problems.
    • Assign personnel to various tasks based on the individual’s skills and capabilities as required by workload and production requirements. Monitor and balance the various assembly areas for throughput based on the shipping schedules.

 

  1. Leading Supplier Quality, EM (Electro Mechanical) assembly in-process inspection, quality surveillance and improvement activities and site ISO-9001.
    • Direct technical and administrative workers engaged in quality assurance activities
    • Oversee new product qualification and make any necessary changes to improve this process
    • Oversee receiving inspection and makes necessary changes to improve the processes
    • Oversee gage calibration and management system

 

  1. Managing the system that investigates and resolves internal and customer quality concerns that relate to manufacturing and supplier quality and does so on a timely basis.
    • Lead the investigation and communication of investigation results to appropriate functional areas and/or suppliers and coordinates corrective actions as necessary.
    • Develop new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities
    • Provide the customer, directly or through sales, problem solving documentation, e.g. root cause analysis, corrective action, etc…
    • Audit corrective actions to ensure sustainability + effectiveness and to avoid problem recurrence
    • Perform quality engineering reviews of design documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including supplier quality manuals and company quality records.
    • Lead the MRB (Material Review Board) to ensure timely and proper disposition of rejected products.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards
    • Design and implement quality assurance training programs to key personnel
    • ISO 9001 Facility coordinator including internal audits, system “Management Representative” and lead person/host of external annual audit.
  2. Be the site continuous improvement leader

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

 

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years work experience at a company that does EM (electromechanical) assembly
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Quality leadership role, directly managing Quality team at a company that performs EM assembly
  • Experience in electro-mechanical assembly environment is a must. 
  • Experience in Oracle, a plus
  • Must be strong in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Prior Management experience in Quality Leadership at a electro-mechanical manufacturing company
  • Hands on with the ability and willingness to jump in at any time and inspect, test or perform any other task expected of subordinates.
  • Working understanding of Labview, Linux & Microsoft Windows, IT networking.
  • Working understanding of test equipment such as signal generator, signal analyzer and network analyzer
  • Able to get to the root cause of problems, create and implement corrective actions and create plans to verify the effectiveness of corrective actions, all in a timely manner to prevent future occurrences.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
  • ISO 9001 experience required and statistical analysis skills important
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in the manufacturing of either PCBAs, Wire harness and cable construction, metals manufacturing of any sort
  • Practical experience in using quality software and test equipment
  • Experience at a company that performed electromechanical assembly of RF (Radio Frequency) or similar products
  • Experience with RF in either quality, testing and/or engineering.

 

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, RF or other Engineering or related degrees.

As required by law in this state, the quoted salary range for this position is $121,500 - $155,000 and represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect.   We tailor our offers within the range based on organizational needs, internal equity, market data, geographic zone, and the selected candidate’s experience, education, industry knowledge, location, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the selection process.  At SPX, it is not common for individuals to be hired at the higher end of the range, and compensation decisions depend on a variety of factors.  This position is eligible to participate in a discretionary bonus, subject to the rules governing the plan.  SPX offers a variety of benefits, including health benefits, 401K retirement with a company match, and flexible time off.   More information about our benefits can be found on the “Rewards and Benefits” section of our career page.
