How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Site Manager/Operations Lead, you are the senior manager on site and are responsible for the engagement and welfare of employees including leading engagement activities, regular All Employee meetings as well as skip level meetings to drive communication, alignment and better understand opportunities and challenges that employees encounter.

 

Key to this role is driving collaboration and alignment between departments to include but not be limited to Finance, Engineering, Purchasing and Supply Chain and Product Management to ensure appropriate focus on key deliverables and activities.

 

The Operations Manager/ Site Lead also has responsibility for leading the day-to-day operations and driving the performance of the site to ensure that projects and delivery of product to customers is achieved in a timely fashion and manufactured in accordance with approved specifications in a cost-effective manner. Core to the role is responsibility for the effective utilization of materials, equipment, plant facilities and resource as these relate to manufacturing and shipping operations and the prompt delivery of product to customers.

 

The position plays an active role in continuous improvement initiatives in the operational areas for which the position is responsible.

 

The Operations Manager/ Site Lead is further responsible for managing the day-to-day building and grounds operations as well as leading contractual discussions as it relates to the facility.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Management/Leadership:
  • On site leader responsible for employee engagement, welfare and operations
  • Drive on-site employee engagement activities and implement and monitor survey actions
  • Provide effective and appropriate communication to all employees to ensure timely and consistent information; this includes facilitating regular All Employee and skip level meetings
  • Co-ordinate and lead weekly management meetings
  • Act as main point of contact and coordinator for Company visitors to site
  • Provide monthly report to Radiodetection leadership team highlighting progress against initiatives, employee feedback and operations
  • Set and communicate standards of performance and appraise employee performance
  • Drive completion of employee surveys and training initiatives
  • Ensure that changes to policies, procedures and standards are communicated and implemented accordingly
  1. Operations Execution:
  • Drive achievement of business results
  • Monitor actual production versus forecast, review all production reports, material and labor variances and take appropriate action to achieve budget and standard
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate resource requirements and work assignments for production employees and provide direction on the timing on all projects
  • Work closely with purchasing to mitigate potential shortfalls in current/future material requirements that may impede smooth work flow
  • Ensure product is manufactured in accordance to specified quality standards and controls
  • Drive improvement of both operational results and levels of customer satisfaction
  • Actively drive a continuous improvement process to measure current performance, identify opportunities, develop plans and effect change to improve results
  1. Continuous Improvement
  • Responsibility for leading operational CI initiatives at the location
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize productivity, reduce cost, and improve overall operational efficiency 
  • Monitor and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and take proactive measures to address 
  • In partnership with leadership team, implement long term planning activities designed to enhance operations and manage capital projects 
  • Participate in other projects as assigned that relate to the overall goals of the department and organization 
  1. Health & Safety & facility management
  • Co-chair monthly Health & Safety meetings to identify non-compliance and hazards that require mitigation and take prompt action
  • Effectively communicate any policy/procedure changes relating to facility or EHS from Corporate or divisional. Work with HR and responsible leadership to drive any policy/procedure changes.
  • Ensure the building is maintained by identifying and acting on needs for repair in regard to electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and structural; ensure that plant and equipment is being maintained effectively
  • Responsible for coordinating the building and grounds maintenance with third parties and among building constituents
  • Ensure that Emergency Preparedness plan is current, and training and equipment are maintained

Required Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in all aspects of the production process
  • Have effective planning and organizational, leadership and motivational skills
  • Experience contract management and supplier management.
  • Demonstrated experience of need for clear and solid understanding of personnel policies, practices, and procedures and other operational issues faced by the organization
  • Effective leadership and motivational skills

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Broad understanding of global supply chains and logistics
  • Experience in outsourcing and continuous improvement
  • Experience working in ERP related system
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate and collaborate across organizational levels (production employees, engineering, sales, leadership)
  • Proven ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve goals
  • Proven experience attracting, retaining, motivating, and developing high performing, diverse teams
  • Demonstrated ability to lead continuous improvement, lean savings, and process improvements
  • Sound knowledge of operational processes, including production planning, scheduling, inventory management, and quality control
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines 

Education & Certifications

  • Minimum of a college diploma of engineering, business administration, process engineering or related field
  • Minimum 2 - 5 years’ experience in leading a production & manufacturing work environment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with a strong focus on operations, continuous improvement and business processes
  • Demonstrated experience of need for clear and solid understanding of employee policies, practices, and procedures and other operational issues faced by the organization
