How you will make an Impact (Job Summary) 

 

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Manager, Applications Engineering you will be providing technical and sales assistance to customers in support of the sales staff, acting as an information resource on technical issues for customer.   Incumbent acts as a liaison between sales, engineering and customers.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities) 

 

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be: 

 

  • Prepares technical quotes in a timely manner following the company’s proposal development process
  • Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods
  • Responsible for generating accurate cost estimations and proposals to meet client specification (or exception thereof) for all assigned projects
  • Respond to interdepartmental requests as it relates to sales proposals needed to achieve duties and responsibilities and Responsible to generate initial RFQ to Procurement
  • Qualify and forward leads for Original Equipment as part of the normal application engineering activity to designated regions or assigned Reps and Process orders received, verifying that all necessary documentation is included and resolve any problems prior to passing orders to contracts group
  • Provide suggestions on product improvements through redesign ideas or feedback received from the field

Required Experience  

  • 3-5 years in applications engineering role with proven leadership success managing 2+ employees

 

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Strong business acumen across tools and processes with a teachable mindset
  • Ability to establish priorities and work with minimal supervision. Detail oriented, technical background.
  • High energy, self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Ability to quickly assess and solve complex issues in dynamic situations with limited information
  • Inclusive leadership skills to build a connection to global customers and colleagues through personal involvement and trust
  • Demonstrated tendency to challenge the status quo and drive constant improvement in process and ability to achieve organizational goals
  • Ability to clearly define and resolve complex issues with the area of responsibility
  • Able to work effectively and comfortably with change. Strong and proven ability to follow through with multiple tasks in order to achieve desired results
  • Willingness and ability to assist other team members and act as their back-up, as required, during absences
  • Willing and eager to grow and learn new responsibilities and duties as we grow the company
  • Strong passion for high quality output with a customer first mindset
  • Drafting experience a plus but not required.

 

Education & Certifications 

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience, such as in Mechanical Design, or Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing consulting

  • Minimal travel (10%) that includes visits to other facilities, vendors and training
