This position will be located onsite at our Sigma & Omega business in Mississauga, ON 

How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

We are a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Human Resources Manager, you are a key member of the local Leadership team who partners to support local goals, organizational development, growth, cultural change and innovation.  This role oversees the local HR department and is a change agent for strategic and tactical improvements.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. HR Advisory & Employee Relations

 

  • Understand and apply employment & labor law, policies, practices, and compliance.  Adapt to changing labor laws including responding to municipal, state, and provincial agencies.
  • Support supervisors and managers with performance management needs using processes and tools. This includes coaching, addressing performance issues, developing employees, and conflict resolution.
  • Lead internal investigations and bring to resolution

 

  1. Talent Acquisition, Training and Development
  • Manage and oversee talent health assessment and talent action planning including identifying org capability gaps and creating development plans in support of competency/capability development.
  • Manage and oversee the full scope of the employee life cycle including: identifying resourcing issues, implementing local staffing plans to ensure staffing needs are met, overseeing local recruiting, onboarding, and implementing exit policies / practices
  • Oversee the annual internship/co-op program.
  • Implement learning and org development plans and succession planning to support local needs.
  • Assess, coordinate and conduct employee training, and leadership coaching
  • Support compliance training and initiatives (e.g., health & safety, harassment, AODA)

 

3.  Employee Engagement and Retention

  • In collaboration with local leadership, administer annual employee survey inclusive of participation, communication, and associated action plans.
  • Along with onsite HR Generalist, support and implement recognition and onsite engagement activities.
  • Facilitate and support effective local communication (townhalls, email, newsletter and posting announcements).
  • Execute on Inclusion initiatives.

 

4.   Policy Development and Compliance

 

  • Ensure compliance with Ontario employment laws and company policies
  • Develop, implement, and update HR policies, employee handbook, and procedures

5.  HR Metrics and Reporting

  • Track and report on key HR metrics (labor/revenue ratio, turnover, absenteeism, recruitment metrics etc)
  • Gather and provide data-driven insights to support decision-making. Make enhanced Human Resources decisions based on the data.

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • Proven ability to coach and advise supervisors / managers on employee relations issues.
  • Experience with regular/routine interface with Sr. Leaders
  • Strong organizational development and org capability analysis and staff planning
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, and Safety compliance
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs and develop solutions.
  • 5 + years in a lead site-level HR role and managing 1+ direct report; 7+ years overall HR experience.
  • Experience with full cycle HR generalist functions (pay and performance planning, goal setting, open enrollment etc.)
  • Experience delivering training modules and workshops to a variety of employees.
  • Experience with initiating and sustaining meaningful employee engagement activities.
  • Acquisition/integration experience with strong understanding/respect of culture; serve as change agent as necessary

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in manufacturing, or logistics facility
  • Collaboration with Safety/EHS function

 

Education & Certifications

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • CHRP designation (or in progress) preferred

Travel & Working Environment

  • This role is onsite
  • Office environment with frequent time spent in manufacturing/plant floor environment requiring safety equipment (safety glasses, hearing protection and safety shoes)
