As the Maintenance and Reliability Intern, you will assist the Maintenance team and Engineering team in successfully achieving continuous improvement efforts. This internship offers a variety of opportunities that can vary from basic engineering tasks related to design, analysis, test, and developing products and equipment.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Provide support to engineering team in the execution of the technical activities required on assigned projects such as:

- Create data acquisition for non-efficiency testing
- Source and install procedures

- Provide support to engineering team by performing activities such as mock-up preparation, process testing and equipment qualifications
- Learn and perform test and measurement equipment in mechanical or electronic systems for product testing
- Collect machine downtime data; analyze it for trends
- Perform RCFA activities
- Use collected data to adjust PM or Predictive practices
- Review and adjust critical spare parts
- Collaborate with other team members on machine improvements with the objective of reducing downtime
- Lead other projects as assigned or proposed by you
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience and Education
- Student working towards a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related Engineering field
- Candidates must have completed their second year of engineering studies
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
- High problem-solving skills and self-direction
- Company will not provide sponsorship of position – must be eligible to work in US
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with technical drawings
- Mechanical aptitude for machines and tools
- Technical hands-on experience with Microsoft Office products
Travel & Working Environment
- Manufacturing Environment frequently requires use of foot and eye protection when in production areas
- Ability to climb, stoop, crouch and crawl
- Ability to lift/move up to 25lbs occasionally
