As part of Detection and Measurement, CUES is the world’s leading developer of water, wastewater, and storm water inspection equipment.   With CCTV cameras, pre-built vehicles, and software for pipeline inspection and rehabilitation, we improve the safety and reliability of our water infrastructure systems.

 

How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. Under the direction of the Machine Shop Manager, the Machinist produces machined parts by loading, unloading, setting, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine or manual machines. As the Machinist you will perform visual and measurement inspections for in-process and finish production parts. Machinist will be expected to maintain quality and safety standard, keep accurate records, and maintain equipment and supplies. 

                                                                                                

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

 

  1. Technical Operations:

 

  • Produce parts as directed by schedule or Lead person.
  • Load parts by lifting stock into position.
  • Setup machine work offsets, machine attachments and fixtures in accordance to work instructions.
  • Maintain equipment by completing daily and weekly preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions and calling for repairs.
  • Follow instructions as delivered by Lead person, work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications, and locations of surfaces.
  • Ability to work independently.

 

  1. Quality Assurance:

 

  • Document inspection results and complete quality reports and logs
  • Inspect production parts by conducting visual and measurement tests.
  • Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to defined quality standards.
  • Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes as trained.

 

  1. Safety and Compliance:

 

  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Safely operate mills and lathes by following instructions, including zero and reference points, including basic math.
  • Safely operate other machine tools, attachments, collets, bushings, stops, and stock pushers and indicating vises as trained and monitored by Lead person.

 

  1. Documentation and Communication:

 

  • Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating. Actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Document actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Accomplish organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Discuss inspection results with the production team and communicate required adjustments or re-work to supervisor

 

  1. Training and Development:
  • Update job knowledge by participate in educational opportunities; read technical publications.

 

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

 

Required Experience

  • Minimum 8 years Machine Shop Experience.
  • Previous work experience on manual mills, lathes and CNC machines.
  • Basic math, reading and writing skills.
  • Mechanical ASSY understanding.
  • Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work in team environment to achieve common goal.
  • Understanding of conceptual skills, process improvement, verbal communication, functional and technical skills, controls and instrumentation, supply management, tooling, inventory control, judgment and attention to detail.

 

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Prefer Journeyman Machinist experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret GD&T.
  • Requires Safe Work Habits
  • Maintain good attendance

 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Remain standing on feet for long periods of time
  • Frequent carrying, grasping, reaching, pulling, pulling, stooping for parts and supplies

 

Education & Certifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required

 

Working Environment, Schedule and Travel

  • Normal work hours (4 -10 hour days – Days may vary Mon – Fri)
    • 1st shift – 5:00AM to 3:30PM
  • Must be flexible to work overtime as required
