Job Summary
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Painter, you will be responsible for preparing and applying a variety of coatings—including paint, primer, sealants, and bed liners—to metal, plastic, foam, and welded parts to protect surfaces and enhance appearance. This role involves surface preparation, paint mixing, spray application, equipment maintenance, and inspection for quality. The Painter will also apply specialized bed liners, operate related equipment, and perform general shop tasks such as cleaning, grinding, and packaging. A strong focus on safety, attention to detail, and adherence to quality standards is essential in this position.
Job Responsibilities
- Paint Application:
- Apply coatings (paint, varnish, plastic, etc.) to metal, plastic, plastic, foam, and welded parts using spray guns or dipping methods.
- Prepare surfaces by washing, sanding, filling holes, and applying primers/sealers.
- Mask areas with tape and paper as needed.
- Mix and adjust paint or chemicals to correct viscosity and consistency.
- Set up and operate spray equipment, adjusting nozzles for proper coverage.
- Inspect coated products for defects like bubbles or uneven finishes and perform touch-ups as necessary.
- Bed Liner Application:
- Apply protective coatings such as Rhino, Line-X, or Scorpion liners.
- Maintain bed liner equipment (spray guns, pumps, hoses, etc.).
- Operate digital thickness gauges to ensure coating consistency.
- Work in full PPE including coveralls, respirator, and facemask in high-heat environments.
- General Duties & Shop Support:
- Operate gauges and safety ventilation systems; replace filters as needed.
- Clean equipment, tools, and workspaces using appropriate solvents.
- Maintain inventory of supplies (paint, sandpaper, PPE, etc.).
- Assist with general shop duties such as grinding, deburring, packaging, and operating machinery per supervisor instructions.
- Consistently follow safety procedures and wear required PPE.
Required Experience
- Steel/Aluminum/Plastic painting experience needed
- Paint gun experience needed
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Minimum 5 years Paint Shop Experience
- Bed liner application experience a plus
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Work Schedule & Working Environment
- Paint Shop environment, PPE Required.
- Normal work hours are Monday – Friday 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Overtime as required
