How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

As a Package Project Manager, you will serve as a key technical resource for SPX sales personnel and representatives while managing all aspects of customer service and full-cycle project management for assigned territories. The incumbent will process orders, manage change orders, support compliance and contract review, and collaborate with internal teams to resolve customer issues, warranty claims, and quality feedback in a timely, cost-effective manner. This role is essential in driving customer satisfaction, maintaining target margins, improving quality processes, and ensuring on-time shipments while effectively managing multiple projects and building strong cross-functional partnerships.
This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
- Order and Project Management
- Plan deliveries and shipments to balance customer needs with business financial goals.
- Manage customer communications, schedules, clarifications, and milestone tracking for assigned projects.
- Maintain target margins through effective change order management and pricing controls.
- Cross-functional Coordination and Risk Management
- Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing, and internal teams to resolve project issues and ensure timely execution.
- Manage order holds, contract reviews, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and regularly update management on project status.
- Conduct weekly plant visits to support quality improvements, risk mitigation, and peer knowledge sharing.
- Financial, Claims, and Customer Support
- Support Finance by ensuring timely cash collection and manage insurance, bond forms, and letters of credit.
- Process warranty, supplemental, and HVAC claims, investigate root causes, and manage customer returns and back charges.
- Act as a company agent globally and initiate vendor purchase orders as needed.
What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience & Skills
- 1-2 years of project or construction management experience or related customer service experience
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and effectively implement changes
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-function teams at all levels (production to management) and present data and recommendations verbally and in written form to management
- Solid base of leadership skills
Ideal Experience & Skills
- Experience in accounting, engineering, construction management, and/or supply chain, preferred
- Experience in the power plant or similar industry
- Knowledge of HVAC, cooling towers, and/or chillers, strongly desired
- Aftermarket or distributor sales (representative management) experience, helpful
- Familiarity with SAP, or other ERP systems
- Project scheduling experience
- Familiarity with engineering documents and history, desired
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree
Travel & Working Environment
- Onsite office environment, Monday – Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period
- Ability to travel to Olathe plant
- Occasional lifting up to 5 pounds.
- Keyboarding/typing
- Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy
- Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally
- May work outside at times and be exposed to excessive noise, heat, or bad weather
