How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Project Manager I, Aftermarket, you will oversee the full lifecycle of assigned projects—from order intake through closeout—ensuring on-time, on-budget, and high-quality execution. The incumbent will manage scheduling, cost forecasting, change orders, subcontractors, and customer communication, while actively safeguarding project margin through close monitoring of material and labor costs. This role requires strong leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to resolve issues quickly, drive customer satisfaction, and align cross-functional teams to project objectives.

 

This role fosters ownership and accountability, drives continuous improvement through Lessons Learned and Operational Excellence efforts, and supports global project execution in accordance with SPX’s Standard Work Process Map (SWPM).

 

This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

 

  1. Project Leadership & Communication
  • Engage in proposal phase as needed and lead cross-functional project teams.
  • Serve as the primary contact for customers, consortium partners, suppliers, and internal departments.
  • Establish communication protocols, coordinate meetings, and address project-related issues.

 

  1. Contract, Schedule & Financial Management
  • Oversee contract execution, change orders, claims, and insurance matters.
  • Manage project scheduling across engineering, manufacturing, and construction.
  • Ensure financial oversight, including cost tracking, margin verification, revenue forecasting, and cash flow planning.

 

  1.   Project Execution & Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including Project Status Reports and Document Control Lists (DCL).
  • Support Operational Excellence initiatives and lead Lessons Learned activities.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate guidelines, travel as needed, and manage projects globally based on size and scope.

 

What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

 

Required Experience & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and effectively implement changes
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-function teams at all levels (production to management) and present data and recommendations verbally and in written form to management

 

Ideal Experience & Skills

  • 2-3 years of project, construction management, or related experience
  • Experience in the power plant or similar industry
  • Experience in accounting, engineering, construction management, and/or supply chain, preferred
  • Knowledge of HVAC, cooling towers, and/or chillers, strongly desired
  • Aftermarket or distributor sales (representative management) experience, helpful
  • Familiarity with SAP, or other ERP systems
  • Project scheduling experience
  • Familiarity with engineering documents and history, desired

 

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business or Engineering, or equivalent education and experience
  • Certification according to the US PMI Standard, preferred

 

Travel & Working Environment

  • Onsite office environment, Monday – Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period
  • Driver’s License and proof of insurance
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours.
  • Keyboarding/typing
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally
  • May work outside at times and be exposed to excessive noise, heat, or bad weather
