How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)


SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Manager, Proposal Management, you will provide direct leadership to assigned Proposal and Technical Services staff as they work a project from initial budget through close of order and handoff to Project Management Team.  This person is responsible for addressing the schedule and technical objectives for Evaporative Cooling proposals and new orders and assures that staff is accurately communicating project information to Estimating and Project Management.  This person maintains schedule and distribution of work, assists with maintaining master project schedule for external resources (project management, engineering & materials) and communicates lead-times for field-erected products.  This position partners with Sales, Marketing, Product Management and Project Management in setting specific product and market strategies considering technical and commercial issues.  As the primary source of in-house support for field sales, the incumbent possesses extensive knowledge of all Evaporative Cooling products and current market conditions.  


What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)


While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:


  • Improve and maintain methods and processes related to proposals, technical data, project handoff and contract review
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Sales and Project Management
  • Develop and maintain revenue & gross margin forecasts in conjunction with Project Management
  • Support the Sales organization with technical and commercial information, budgetary quotes and firm quotes. Assist with field sales calls, with formal presentations, and bid qualifications meetings
  • Gather and analyze product data (e.g. sales, margin, win/loss ratio). Recommend and help implement improvements, as needed
  • Develop & maintain proposal manager performance indicators. Assess and develop department employees. Organize and provide training for associates
  • Oversee accuracy of project quotes and proposals
  • Team with field sales to lead contract review and negotiations with clients
  • Lead bid review meetings


What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

Required Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
  • MBA helpful
  • Management experience preferred
  • 7+ years of experience, including 3+ years of proposal and technical experience in a relevant industry
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, Power Point, and Project
  • Familiarity with SAP or other ERP system
  • Sales experience highly desirable
  • Familiarity with HVAC, industrial processes, power plants, or cooling towers, as well as engineering documents, desirable
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Project management experience helpful
  • Ability to develop proposal strategies based on subject matter expertise
  • Strong understanding of technical and commercial project variables with the ability to proactively initiate action based on that understanding
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong technical aptitude
  • Strong negotiation skills both technically and commercially
