Buyer/Planner - Temporary

As part of Detection and Measurement, Radiodetection is a global leader in the design and development of equipment and software used by utility companies to install, protect, and maintain underground infrastructure networks.  Through precision and magnetic locators and ground penetrating radar, we help prevent damage to infrastructure utilities and protect lives.

 

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a buyer/planner, you source and buy goods and materials as well as plan, schedule, and coordinate/monitor flow of products through the production process.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Procurement
  • Analyze, forecast and procure material utilizing current SAP material planning system and personal experience.
  • Identify, select and manage key strategic suppliers for best in safety, quality,  delivery, and cost.
  • Track key vendor performance in support of overall strategies
  • Manage component requirements by leveraging SAP
  • Utilize problem solving tools to improve procedures and communications with internal/external customers and suppliers.
  • Review MRP procurement messages daily to understand material needs driven by the production plan and inventory strategies.
  • Assist in developing and implementing inventory performance metrics (KPIs) – Turns, Costs, Excess/Obsolete.

 

 

  1. Planning and Scheduling
  • Develop production schedules and manage production orders, ensuring accurate scheduling and sequencing of manufacturing.
  • Create and add to production schedule manufacturing work orders to build sub-assemblies and finished goods.
  • Review MRP schedules, consignment Kanban requirements, and related information and confer with department supervisors to determine material requirements.
  • Continuously monitor production progress and adjust schedules as needed to meet customer demands.
  • Troubleshoot problem situations and coordinate the rearrangement of production schedules with affected departments to supply required assemblies and subassemblies at the proper time.

 

  1. Materials & Inventory Support 
  • Identify material shortages, constraints, other issues that may impact production schedules and coordinate the rearrangement of schedules with affected departments.
  • Evaluate finished goods demand to determine if components are in house and if all sub-assemblies are built and available.
  • Address any inventory adjustments by replacing with different scheduled finished goods.
  • Monitor in-plant transfer of materials to meet production standards.
  • Monitor supplier deliveries to meet production schedules.
  • Calculate amount of material required to complete job orders.
  • Manage and control inventory levels from raw material to finished products using SAP ERP system as well as physical verification.
  • Assist in managing cycle count program to ensure inventory accuracy
  • Drive improvements in the overall process efficiencies and communications to key stakeholders.
  • Assisting in managing slow-moving and obsolete materials and process.

 

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • Prior buying/planning experience in Manufacturing Operations.
  • Prior production scheduling experience

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with SAP ERP system, particularly in buying, planning, and scheduling.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite with strong Excel skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Continuous improvement mindset, with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing process enhancements.
  • Collaborative mindset, with proven ability to work cross functionally.

 

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s  degree Preferred

Travel & Working Environment

  • Office environment with occasional work in a plant/manufacturing environment
  • Minimal travel (<10%) that includes visits to other facilities, vendors and training.
