Job Summary
The manufacturing engineer will support the production team for SPX through design, troubleshooting, and technical manufacturing engineering support. Technical support involves providing direct support to production through safety and ergonomic improvements, troubleshooting, problem solving, material flow, general maintenance opportunities. This position will also assist in driving product quality by implementing best practices and driving change to improve manufacturing processes. The successful incumbent will have a variety of technical skills, broad engineering knowledge, sound engineering and business judgment, strong communication skills, knowledge of the industry, and strong project management skills.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Initiate and implement capital projects of all sizes including those having large scope and a high degree of complexity.
- Resolve technical issues to support the production floor and help design fixturing
- Implement operational excellence and continuous improvement projects
- Focus on improving the quality and productivity on the shop floor while reducing scrap and promoting cost reductions.
- Conduct EHS training for employees and control documents
- Perform other job-related duties as necessary to fulfill responsibilities of position.
- Develop work instructions and training documentation to ensure successful operation and maintenance of new processes, equipment, and systems.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering subfield (idus, mechanical, etc.)
- 2-7 years experience
Certifications/Other Skills and Abilities
- Strong mechanical background with hands-on mechanical ability
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Solid Edge, or other 3-D solid modeling software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Knowledge of sheet metal production processes a plus
- Knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems a plus
- Experienced in Lean Processes, Six Sigma and ISO a plus
