Lead System Architect

Wappenham, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom

SPX Enterprise Control Systems (ECS) designs and produces a range of programmable jammers (RF Inhibitors) and other specialist equipment for use in the high level military and internal security domains.

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

Responsibility for the development and architecture of new products as set out by the Engineering Manager and Chief Technology Officers (CTO). Technology and design focused role aimed at turning concepts into real products. Must be capable of utilizing and maximizing the expertise within the engineering team to realize new products. Understanding and researching technology that could benefit the company's roadmap and current portfolio of products. Potential to support or lead innovation and work on products across all three CommTech (TCI & ECS) pillars – Datalinks, Battlespace and Spectrum Monitoring Systems (SMS).

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Influence the Product Roadmap
  • Responsible for the research and development phases of new Products in conjunction with the other Principal/Senior Engineers.
  • Responsible for driving New Product Development (NPD) processes across company.
  • Responsible for system design on new products in conjunction with the other Principal/Senior Engineers.
  • Conduct and manage the transfer of designs through NPD, Engineering and into Production engineering when required.
  • Act as the Technical Lead/Chief Engineer for assigned projects
  • Production of Requirement Specifications and/or User Requirement Documents.
  • Requirements Management – product lifecycle (concept to delivery).  
  • Organize and lead the Preliminary Design Reviews, Intermediate Design Reviews and Critical Design Reviews as dictated by company procedures.
  • Control, administer and provide budgetary information to the Engineering Manager/CTO for your projects and also design tools required.
  • Peer review the design documentation and records when related to your projects
  • Drive NPD by producing work packages and supporting assignment of work to other members of the Engineering team via their Line Manager
  • Manage subcontractors, external design resources and outsourcing where required.
  • Feasibility Studies
  • Research, prototyping and implementation of new technologies
  • Complete lower level design (dependent on expertise area) eg. RF, Firmware, Software, Electronic, hardware.
  • Provide input to company procedures
