SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Project Engineering Lead for CommTech (ECS &TCI), you will play a crucial role in New Product Introduction (NPI) and Revenue Generating Projects within our Battlespace, Datalinks and Spectrum Monitoring Systems (SMS) markets.  

 

You will be joining a small dynamic team continually designing who develop world beating products. As a Project Engineering Lead you will be expected to line manage a number of Engineering Personnel whilst being responsible for project management of the Engineering initiatives including New Product Introduction (NPI) and Revenue Generating Projects.

 

This is an opportunity to work in a fast paced but rewarding environment on RF Technologies across a number of exciting markets including defense and aviation.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Supporting the Engineering Director, RF and Hardware Group Manager and Principal Embedded Engineer with resource planning for Engineering Initiatives (NPI and Revenue Generating)
  2. Project Management of Key Engineering projects including NPI and Revenue Generating projects.
  3. Reporting the status of key Engineering projects to Engineering Director, RF and Hardware Group Manager and Principal Embedded Engineer.
  4. Line management of Engineering resource including multiple Hardware disciplines and Systems Engineers.
  5. Management of Engineering contractors.
  6. Managing external design houses and subcontractors.
  7. Owning and reporting on Engineering’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  8. Supporting the implementation of processes and new software tools to aid management of department.
  9. Conduit for Engineering throughout product life cycle including;
    1. Engineering point of contact for Business Development and Sales.
    2. Engineering point of contact for Production Engineering.
    3. Liaising with Operations and Customer Support.
  10. Engineering representative for Sales Order Acknowledgement.

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an equivalent role.
  • The following skills and experience will be required. Candidates are not expected to have experience in all areas;
    • Experience in delivering technical projects and products.
    • Experience working in small to medium sized business.
    • Project Management (Risk logs, resource planning, action logs).
    • Line Management.
    • Experience of working in an ISO 9001 environment and managing processes and procedures.
    • Appreciation of Engineering tasks to aid planning and technical acumen.
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic.
  • Strong team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • A can-do attitude with a willingness to help others.
  • Ability to produce results under pressure.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in an equivalent role.
  • An understanding of products aligned with CommTech’s portfolio.
  • Experience of Project and Line Management in the defense or aviation industry.
  • Experience of reporting to Senior Management.
  • AMP, Prince2 or similar certification.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelors/Masters degree in Engineering or relevant subject (or equivalent work experience).

Security

  • British Citizen or ability to obtain required security clearance.

Travel & Working Environment

  • Travel is unlikely.
  • Onsite working (Wappenham, UK) with option for working from home (3office/2 WFH).
  • Working remotely with TCI (Fremont, US) will be needed.
