How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Senior Advanced Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a key role in defining, developing, and deploying manufacturing processes and capital equipment across multiple facilities. Reporting to the Manager of Advanced Manufacturing, you will lead advanced manufacturing initiatives from concept through implementation, partnering closely with operations, engineering, sourcing, quality, and suppliers. Your work will directly improve safety, quality, cost, and overall manufacturing performance across the enterprise.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
- Manufacturing process development and standardization
- Define and develop robust manufacturing processes for new products, new technologies, and process improvements, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Lead process capability development, including PFMEA input, control plans, standard work, and capacity modeling.
- Establish and deploy standardized manufacturing methods, tooling concepts, and best practices across multiple facilities.
- Capital equipment scoping and implementation:

- Lead the technical scoping, justification, and selection of new manufacturing equipment, automation, and tooling.
- Develop equipment specifications, layouts, and functional requirements in collaboration with operations, maintenance, and controls.
- Manage equipment projects from concept through installation, commissioning, and handoff to production, including FAT/SAT support.
- Coordinate with OEMs, integrators, and internal stakeholders to ensure equipment meets performance, safety, and reliability expectations.
- Support make-versus-buy analyses and supplier technical evaluations related to manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Cross-site collaboration and continuous improvement:
- Work across multiple manufacturing facilities to identify opportunities for process improvement, capacity expansion, and technology deployment.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, throughput, scrap reduction, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to plant-based manufacturing engineers and technicians.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action efforts for complex process or equipment-related issues.
- Documentation, communication, and change management:

- Develop and maintain clear documentation including process flows, equipment specifications, layouts, standard work, and validation plans.
- Ensure proper change management practices are followed for process and equipment changes.
- Communicate project status, risks, and technical decisions effectively to engineering leadership and plant stakeholders.
- Support training and knowledge transfer to operations and maintenance teams during and after project implementation.

Required Experience
- Minimum 5–8 years of manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment, with demonstrated involvement in advanced manufacturing processes and capital equipment projects.
- Proven experience defining manufacturing processes and leading equipment implementation from concept through production.
- Experience working cross-functionally with operations, quality, sourcing, maintenance, and external suppliers.
- Hands-on experience supporting manufacturing environments involving metals, fabricated components, or complex assemblies.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-site manufacturing environment with competing priorities.
- Demonstrated leadership in driving technical decisions, influencing without authority, and delivering results.
- Solid understanding of lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement tools, and structured problem-solving.
- Experience with automation, robotics, or advanced manufacturing technologies is a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP preferred).
- Working knowledge of 2D/3D CAD and manufacturing layouts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related engineering field.
- Advanced degree or Lean Six Sigma certification is a plus.
Travel & Working Environment
- Onsite, plant and office environment; shop floor environment with varying degrees of noise levels.
- Occasional off-shift or weekend support may be required during major startups or breakdowns.
- Travel up to 25–40% may be required to support multiple facilities, equipment suppliers, and project deployments.
