How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As the Purchasing Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in procurement, supplier management, and supply chain operations within a global manufacturing environment. You will support the purchasing team in daily activities while also taking ownership of at least one critical project aimed at solving a problem, improving a process, or strengthening supplier relationships.
This role will give you exposure to the fundamentals of supply chain management, including sourcing, negotiation, supplier performance, and inventory support, while developing your professional skills in analysis, communication, and project management
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While specific projects will vary, your responsibilities may include:
1. Purchasing Support
- Assist with purchase order creation, tracking, and follow-up with suppliers.
- Support analysis of supplier quotes, delivery schedules, and cost trends.
- Help ensure accurate purchasing documentation, including contracts, supplier information, and inventory records.
2. Supplier & Vendor Relations
- Communicate with suppliers to confirm pricing, delivery timelines, and resolve issues.
- Participate in supplier performance evaluations and reporting.
- Assist with supplier onboarding, audits, or qualification activities.
3. Data & Reporting
- Help analyze purchasing data and prepare reports for leadership.
- Monitor metrics related to cost, delivery, and quality performance.
- Contribute to dashboards and presentations summarizing purchasing performance.
4. Continuous Improvement & Projects
- Lead at least one project focused on improving a purchasing or supply chain process (e.g., cost reduction, supplier scorecarding, inventory control, or system enhancement).
- Identify opportunities for process efficiency and share recommendations with the team.
- Support cross-functional collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and finance to resolve material and sourcing challenges.

Required Experience
- Strong time management, organization, and attention to detail.
- Problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn new tools and concepts.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; collaboration in a team setting.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with business systems (e.g., ERP/CRM/CPQ) or analytics tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI) is a plus.
Education & Certifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
Travel & Working Environment
- Fully on-site
- Office-based with occasional exposure to plant/manufacturing areas.
- No travel required
