SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. Join our Human Resources team as a 2026 Summer HR Intern in Brentwood, Missouri, where you’ll gain hands-on experience supporting core HR functions while contributing to employee engagement initiatives and daily operations within the Electric Heat business.
This internship is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related fields who want exposure to how HR supports a global manufacturing organization. The intern will assist the HR team with administrative operations, recruiting support, employee engagement initiatives, and communication activities that help create a positive employee experience.
What you can expect in this role (Key Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities may include:
- Support day-to-day HR operations including maintaining employee records, updating HR systems, and preparing documentation.
- Assist with recruitment activities such as posting job descriptions, reviewing resumes, coordinating interviews, and supporting onboarding activities.
- Help coordinate new hire orientation logistics, welcome communications, and onboarding materials.
- Provide administrative support to the HR team, including filing confidential documentation, tracking compliance training, and updating internal records.
- Assist with employee engagement initiatives such as recognition programs, wellness activities, and company events.
- Support internal HR communications including employee announcements, bulletin board updates, and engagement messaging.
- Assist with basic HR reporting, data entry, and HR file organization projects.
- Partner with HR team members to ensure compliance with company policies, labor laws, and confidentiality standards.
This internship provides the opportunity to build foundational knowledge in HR operations, strengthen organizational and communication skills, and gain valuable experience working in a fast-paced, people-focused environment. Required Experience & Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling employee information
- Exposure to AI-enabled tools and an interest in using technology
Ideal Experience & Skills
- Familiarity with HRIS systems, ATS (applicant tracking systems), or payroll software, helpful
- Participation in student HR associations, SHRM student chapters, or business clubs
- Experience in customer service, office administration, or student leadership roles
- Interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources
Education & Certifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field
- Coursework in HR management, employment law, organizational behavior, or labor relations, helpful
- Cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or higher
- High school diploma or GED required
Travel & Working Environment
- Location: Brentwood, Missouri (Electric Heat business)
- Hybrid schedule may be available depending on business needs
- The position may require occasional work outside normal work hours
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
- Keyboarding/typing
- Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or paper copy
- Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally
