Job Summary

The Programme Manager will be responsible for delivering projects across the organisation, engaging other Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams.  These projects may include New Product Introduction projects, technology research projects and business change projects, all of which help support and deliver on the organisation’s strategic direction.  For New Product Introduction projects, the role requires responsibility for all phases of product development from concept through to release to volume manufacture and the initial monitoring of product service and returns information.

 

Effective communication to stakeholders and team members and control of the project team are vital to ensuring that project objectives are met and delivered on time. The jobholder will act as line supervisor to Project Managers and will own the development and maintenance of the business’ project management approach and governance standards.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervision of other Project Managers.
  • Ownership of the business project portfolio.
  • Managing the project teams’ activities to ensure that all required stage gate information is available to ensure timely stage gate sign off.
  • Creating a Project Definition Document for each project in order to frame the project scope, approach, deliverables, cost, resourcing requirements, governance and schedule, including a detailed risk analysis.
  • Developing stage gate milestone dates, cost estimates and outline project objectives with inputs from the skill and functional team members (Marketing, Engineering, Purchasing and Manufacturing etc.) for New Product Introduction projects.
  • Developing and then driving, with the cross-functional team, a detailed project plan to deliver the project to the agreed schedule, cost and deliverable targets
  • Regular and effective communication of project status to all stakeholders.SKI

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE

  • Strong programme/project management skills – utilised on new product introduction and business change projects – and use of the appropriate tools.
  • Technical understanding of electronic products and their development (analogue and digital electronics, software and mechanical components).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills with a proven ability to motivate and energise teams.
  • Sound analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and thorough in approach to work.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to liaise and co-ordinate tasks and data with peers and management team in order to successfully complete work tasks.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

  • Experience as a project manager utilising multi-disciplinary project teams in both product development and business change environments.
  • Good working knowledge of Windows applications including Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or business discipline.
  • Successful experience of outsourcing product development.
  • Risk management & creating associated mitigation plans.
  • Technical requirements setting / management.
  • “Agile” / scrum methodology for software development approach.

 

Preferred Education / Experience

  • A formal qualification or certification in project management.
  • System engineering and associated technology experience for hardware and software products
