As part of Detection and Measurement, Radiodetection is a global leader in the design and development of equipment and software used by utility companies to install, protect, and maintain underground infrastructure networks. Through precision and magnetic locators and ground penetrating radar, we help prevent damage to infrastructure utilities and protect lives.
The Senior Buyer will play a key role in supporting the Group Supply Chain Manager and the wider procurement team in achieving strategic objectives. This includes driving cost reduction initiatives, enhancing supplier relationships, and contributing to operational excellence across the purchasing function.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSILITIES
• Deputise for Group Supply Chain Manager as and when required.
• Support the Group Supply Chain Manager in:
• Achieving annual KPIs and cost reduction targets.
• Producing, distributing, and presenting monthly purchasing reports.
• Overseeing daily departmental activities, including task delegation and team supervision.
• Coordinating Group KPI reporting.
• Lead and contribute to Group inventory reviews to optimize stock levels and reduce excess.
• Collaborate with SPX teams on strategic sourcing initiatives.
• Monitor site-level forecasts, safety stock levels, and consumption trends to ensure supply continuity.
• Lead Continuous Improvement projects aimed at improving business performance within defined timelines and parameters.
• Procure materials and supplies at the most competitive prices, ensuring compliance with quality, quantity, delivery, and specification requirements.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier databases, and procurement contracts.
• Identify and evaluate alternative suppliers offering cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers at both operational and senior levels to gain insight into trading conditions and strategic opportunities.
• Take ownership of strategic supplier relationships, including direct engagement with senior leadership teams at supplier organisations, ensuring accountability for deliverables across run-rate production, New Product Introduction (NPI), and Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives.
• Prepare and manage cost estimate tracker sheets for NPI projects.
• Perform additional tasks as reasonably required to support the purchasing function and broader business goals.
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERTISE
• Professional qualifications in procurement (ideally CIPS or equivalent), with extensive purchasing experience and a strong understanding of supply chain and legal aspects of procurement.
• Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), with the ability to manage KPIs and cost tracking effectively.
• Technical knowledge of electronic and mechanical components, assemblies, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings.
• Proven negotiation and stakeholder management skills, including experience engaging with senior leadership teams at supplier organisations.
• Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement and lean principles.
• Demonstrated leadership and team collaboration, with relevant people management experience and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
