How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As Manager, Engineering Systems Strategy, you will support engineering organizations across the enterprise. You will establish and implement technology strategies and roadmaps to achieve the goals and objectives of our businesses and their engineering teams. Additionally, you will collaborate with IT functions to define suitable technologies, architectures, policies, and procedures that efficiently and securely meet the needs of engineering users.

 

You will engage with and support segment and business-level IT engineering leads to understand the current technology portfolio, its specific needs and maintain the appropriate levels of services across the technology portfolio.  Success in this position requires strong communication skills, strong knowledge of engineering systems and applications as well as the ability to effectively analyze business needs, establish priorities, and execute feasibility studies, system design, and implementation of assigned IT projects.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

1. Engineering Systems Portfolio Management

  • Create, implement and refine IT Engineering systems strategy & roadmaps
  • Collaborate across IT and business functions to ensure strategic roadmaps are aligned with the business strategy & needs
  • Create and deliver executive level presentations that clearly articulate the value proposition to the business
  • Manage the enterprise engineering systems portfolio of projects
  • Identify where global standards are needed, define the standard and gain buy in and acceptance.
  • Provide direction on technical challenges associated with relevant systems

 

2. Continuous Improvement: 

  • Conduct process analysis and identify key areas for improvement
  • Lead the prioritization and execution of enterprise sponsored engineering projects

 

3.  Project Management: 

  • Consult and provide support as needed on the engineering projects sponsored and led by the segment/business unit
  • Estimate and manage actual project costs and benefit realization
  • Communicate project status and other project information on a periodic basis
  • Contribute to the planning and maintenance of annual operating plans and budgets across the enterprise

 

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • MBA or MS in Computer Information Systems a plus
  • Experience in the following software packages is a plus (Jira, Confluence, SolidWorks PDM, Altium, Creo, Autodesk, Linux
  • Experience with MS Office Products, MS Project, Word and Excel other desktop software tools

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of the typical technology needs of engineers in various fields (Software, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, etc.)
  • Proficiency in the solutioning, design and support of various engineering technologies required to support each engineering discipline
  • Thorough knowledge of typical engineering processes and workflows across the various disciplines
  • Conscious of security, IP and open-source risk and able to articulate the risk to all stakeholders and incorporate this knowledge in the solutions provided
  • Thorough knowledge of DevOps processes and associated application suites such as Azure DevOps and Atlassian
  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
  • Familiarity with CAD tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Understands all key processes and integration points within the IT department (infrastructure, architecture, applications, security, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the following technologies required (IDEs, Code Scanning, DevOps tooling, PDM, PLM, CAD, Simulation Solutions, Configurators)

 

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or IT field or equivalent work experience

 

Travel & Working Environment

  • Occasional travel may be required
