How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As an Assembly Lead, you will serve as the day‑to‑day lead for the assembly area, ensuring heater units are assembled accurately, safely, and in accordance with work orders, blueprints, and engineering specifications. This role provides hands‑on leadership on the floor, supports and guides assemblers, helps resolve technical and assembly issues, and ensures production, quality, and safety expectations are met.

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

Assembly & Technical Responsibilities

  • Assemble all heater unit product codes and fabricate necessary components per work order, blueprint, and engineering specifications.
  • Drill and tap holes in specified locations for mounting control units.
  • Attach breakers, relays, connectors, bus bars, transformers, or insulators.
  • Install and wire thermostats and other product options.
  • Perform hypot testing per specification.
  • Test and adjust electrical components to ensure proper operation and compliance with specifications.

Lead Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the assembly area, providing day‑to‑day direction and support to assemblers.
  • Assist with training and onboarding of new employees and provide guidance to existing team members on assembly methods, safety, and quality standards.
  • Monitor workflow, prioritize work, and help balance resources to meet production schedules.
  • Review work for accuracy and quality, addressing issues promptly to minimize rework or delays.
  • Communicate and collaborate with supervision, engineering, and other departments to resolve assembly issues and clarify production requirements.

Safety, Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Promote and enforce safe work practices and proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient assembly area.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and support continuous improvement initiatives within the assembly area.

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • One to three months related assembly experience and/or training
  • Prior experience acting as a lead, trainer, or go‑to resource in an assembly or manufacturing environment preferred

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering specifications
  • Strong attention to detail, quality, and safety
  • Ability to provide direction and support to others without formal supervisory authority
  • Effective communication and problem‑solving skills

Education

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Travel & Working Environment

Employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
