How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

The Procurement Analytics Summer Intern will support the Procurement and Sourcing teams by providing data analysis, reporting, and insights that improve decision-making across cost, supplier performance, and operational efficiency. This role will gain hands-on experience working with ERP data, dashboards, spend analytics, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to learn how data drives procurement strategy.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Assist in developing and maintaining procurement dashboards and reports (spend analysis, savings tracking, KPI metrics, supplier performance)
  • Analyze large datasets across materials, suppliers, pricing, and purchase orders to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  •  Support data validation and cleansing activities to ensure accuracy of ERP and procurement master data.
  • Help prepare executive summaries, presentations, and visualizations for leadership reviews.
  • Conduct research on suppliers, market pricing, commodity trends, and benchmarking.
  •  Assist in creating standardized tools (templates, scorecards, trackers) to support sourcing events and supplier evaluations.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Finance, Quality, Planning) on data-driven improvement projects.
  •  Support automation or AI-driven initiatives by assembling structured datasets and documentation.

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

Required Experience

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, basic formulas).
  •  Experience working with data sets, spreadsheets, or basic reporting tools.
  •  Ability to interpret numerical data and present insights clearly.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Qlik, Tableau, or similar.
  • Knowledge of database tools or languages (SQL, Python) is a plus.
  •  Familiarity with supply chain, procurement, finance, or operations concepts.
  •  Understanding of KPIs such as cost savings, lead time, on-time delivery, PPV, and supplier scorecards.
  •  Interest in AI, automation, or data visualization.
  •  Ability to create clean, professional presentations in PowerPoint.

 

Education & Certifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Business Analytics
    •  Data Analytics
    •  Industrial Engineering
    •  Finance
    •  Business Administration
    •  Or a related field
  •  GPA of 3.0+ preferred.
  •  No certifications required, but coursework in analytics, statistics, or supply chain is beneficial.
