How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a “Intern – Engineering” you will have the ability to learn about all areas of the SPX Communication Technologies business whilst supporting the Engineering department.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated intern who will get the opportunity to gain experience in several disciplines whilst working in a successful Engineering environment that designs and builds world leading custom RF and electronic systems.
The intern position will be aimed at building real world experience at a pace that suits the intern. Time will be spent around the company, seeing areas of the business that interface with Engineering to help gain a greater appreciation. Time will also be spent on Engineering based projects that will be selected based on the intern’s experience, knowledge and interest areas.
The position is at our TCI International Inc facility in Fremont, California.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be to learn how to plan & execute technical production, communicate effectively and collaborate with a team by:
- Learning and undertaking jobs within the Manufacturing department;
- Assembly of cable harnesses.
- Assembly of electronic sub systems.
- Assembly of final products and larger systems.
- Learning and undertaking jobs within the Staging (Test) department;
- Test of components and sub-systems.
- Factory Acceptance Testing of final products.
- Learning and undertaking jobs and mini projects within the Engineering department which includes the following disciplines: Embedded, Hardware (PCB & Mechanical), Software and System Engineering. Tasks may include the following;
- Assisting in the preparation of engineering documentation
- Data collection and analysis
- Programming (ie. Phyton, C++, SQL, etc)
- Hardware design
- Participating in team meetings
- Testing and evaluating designs
- Be available to spend time learning and supporting other areas of the business such as:
- Field Support
- Marketing
- Project Engineering
- Programs and Projects
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
- Currently enrolled in an Electrical Engineering program, entering their junior or senior year of undergraduate degree
- Commitment for working onsite for three (3) months
- Effective at multi-tasking, organization and time management
- Demonstrates confidence and composure
- Applies Technical Skills such as professional placements, academic projects or self-driven projects.
- Self-motivated with strong oral and written communication.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to details
- Strong analytical and practical understanding of electrical engineering
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Course work or work experience in a Technical or Engineering Environment is preferred but not required.
- Must have experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Education & Certifications
- Pursuing undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or Mathematics with a graduation between June 2025 and December 2026.
Travel & Working Environment
- No Travel will be required for this role.
- The role will be based at the TCI International facility in Fremont, California.
- The Intern – Engineer will be expected to work at the office.
