How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As Quality Engineer, you will responsible for the day to day management and facilitation of our quality systems to ensure (a) the products coming from suppliers meet the required drawing requirements and/or standards, (b) products assembled internally and by suppliers and then shipped to customers meet internal and customer functional/quality requirements, and (c) root cause of internal, supplier and customer quality problems are identified, and corrective actions put in place and verified as effective. The position works across all functions to ensure current processes meet the ISO 9001 quality standard.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Leads the organization to improve overall quality
    • Monitors quality related KPIs. Creates mitigation plans when measures consistently miss target and/or trend negative. Includes supplier score card
    • Keeps upper management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and actions being taken to improve the situation
    • Reviews and reports the status of the Quality Management System to upper management
  • Support the Incoming Inspection and EM in-process inspection and their activities
    • Oversee incoming inspection systems, processes, and infrastructure ensuring practices are consistent, and processes are followed while looking for opportunities for improvement
    • Improve and develop procedures for in-process and final assembly activities
    • Ensure FAI (First Article Inspection) procedures and policies are met and followed for design and supplier changes as well as new product launches
    • Responsible for the containment and disposition of defective parts and assemblies. This includes responsibility for the MRB (Material Review Board) to ensure timely and proper disposition of rejected products
    • Provide inspection support when needed by performing receiving, in-process, and final inspections when needed.  Be the authority on quality for these operations teams
  • Lead Supplier Quality
    • Supports purchasing in maintaining both supplier manual and supplier score cards and provides input to both
    • Performs supplier audits for new suppliers and when appropriate, for existing suppliers
    • Supports purchasing in supplier selection to ensure high quality and capable suppliers chosen
    • Use supplier quality history to work with supplier’s to improve performance and prevent future quality problems
    • Perform APQP with suppliers on new parts to ensure proper understanding of prints, designs are manufacturable to the desired quality levels, key characteristics are identified and more
    • Notify suppliers of rejects and issues SCARs and supplier chargebacks where appropriate
  • Performs quality engineering and partner with EM to be an engineering liaison between Ops and Engineering to ensure documentation such as prints, assembly instructions, test/inspection instructions meet minimum acceptable requirements
  • ISO 9001 Facility coordinator including internal audits, system “Management Representative” and lead person/host of external annual audit
  • Manages the system that investigates and resolves internal and customer quality concerns that relate to manufacturing and supplier quality and does so on a timely basis
    • Leads the investigation and communication of investigation results to appropriate functional areas and/or suppliers and coordinates corrective actions as necessary
    • Develop new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities
    • Provides the customer, directly or through sales, problem solving documentation, e.g. root cause analysis, corrective action, etc.
    • Audits corrective actions to ensure sustainability + effectiveness and to avoid problem recurrence
  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards
  • Oversees gage calibration and management system
  • Designs and implements quality assurance training programs to key personnel

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • Minimum of ten years work experience at a company that does electromechanical or similar assembly
  • Minimum of five years directly or indirectly in a quality engineering role at a company that performs electromechanical assembly
  • Experience working in with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Prior Management experience in Quality Engineering or Leadership at an electro-mechanical manufacturing company
  • Experience in the manufacturing of either PCBAs, Wire harness and cable construction, metals manufacturing of any sort
  • Experience at a company that performed electromechanical assembly of RF (Radio Frequency) or similar products
  • Experience with RF in either quality, testing and/or engineering
  • Practical experience in using quality software and test equipment
  • Working understanding of Labview, Linux & Microsoft Windows, IT networking.
  • Working understanding of test equipment such as signal generator, signal analyzer and network analyzer
  • Experience in using Oracle and Agile
  • ISO 9001 experience

 

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related degrees

 

Travel & Working Environment

  • Some local travel to suppliers in the SF Bay Area
  • 100% On-site role

 

The compensation information that follows is a reasonable estimate for the position and is provided pursuant to legal requirements in this state.   The salary estimate provided represents the typical salary range for the position, and other factors may be used to determine the successful candidate’s actual salary, including: skill set, experience, training, education, organizational needs, internal equity, market data, and geographic zone.   The estimated salary range for this position is: $108,600 - $125,000.   At SPX, it is not common for individuals to be hired at the higher end of the range, and compensation decisions depend on a variety of factors.   This role is eligible to participate in a discretionary bonus plan, subject to the rules governing the plan.  SPX offers a variety of benefits, including health benefits, 401k retirement with a company match, and flexible time off.   More information about our benefits can be found on the “Rewards and Benefits” section of the career page.
