How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Staff Accountant, you will be using established accounting principles to work often under limited supervision, performs a variety of advanced level professional accounting, auditing, and statistical work involving the preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling financial transactions, statements, records, and reports; performs a variety of management and reporting; assists in preparing month, quarter and year-end reports and schedules; and provides assistance to junior staff.
Utilizing hands-on accounting experience and an in-depth understanding of accounting principles and company practices, the senior accountant will perform complex accounting activities and financial analyses.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
- Responsibilities for all general accounting functions including preparation of journal entries, accounts reconciliation and analysis and preparation of financial statements
- Managing daily cash and applying customer payment on daily basis.
- Assists in establishing and maintaining accounting policies and controls, fiscal controls, preparing financial reports and safeguarding the organization's assets
- Provides financial support including forecasting, budgeting, and analyzing variations from budget
- Prepare additional quarterly & yearly financial data
- Upload and complete financial data to Onestream
- Prepare various tax schedules/returns – income, sales tax, etc.
- Support internal and external audits
- Responsible for fixed asset management
- Familiarity with SOX compliance and testing
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
- 6-9 years of industry experience
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g. Oracle) and Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills
- Strong ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and provide insights for decision-making
- Excellent communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills; able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to work extended hours
- Self-motivated, deadline-oriented, with ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience in system implementations, process improvements, and cross-functional collaboration to support strategic initiatives
- Knowledge of Revenue Recognition ASC 606 is a nice-to-have
- Knowledge of Cost Accounting is preferred but not required
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, growing work environment.
- Thrives in a small team environment with moderate-to-low supervision; high regard for confidentiality; strong analytical skills; positive attitude.
- Experience in driving change, improving processes and business process re-engineering
Education & Certifications
- BA/BS in Finance/Accounting degree or equivalent discipline
Travel & Working Environment
- Work is performed primarily in an office or open-air cubicle environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, lift, twist, bend, walk, operate a computer keyboard, telephone and other office equipment for extended periods of time.
The compensation information that follows is a reasonable estimate for the position and is provided pursuant to legal requirements in this state. The salary estimate provided represents the typical salary range for the position, and other factors may be used to determine the successful candidate’s actual salary, including: skill set, experience, training, education, organizational needs, internal equity, market data, and geographic zone. The estimated salary range for this position is: $90,800 - $125,000. At SPX, it is not common for individuals to be hired at the higher end of the range, and compensation decisions depend on a variety of factors. This role is eligible to participate in a discretionary bonus plan, subject to the rules governing the plan.
