How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
As the EH&S Manager, you will play a crucial role in creating a safe and healthy working environment. You will support SPX operations primarily based in Huntsville, Alabama The EH&S Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations related to environmental, health and safety, implementing protocols and communications, supporting a strong continuous improvement environment, and providing proactive guidance and direction to ensure safe operations. The successful EH&S Manager has a strong understanding of environmental health and safety practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence others and work collaboratively across departments. What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
1.Compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety Regulations
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to environmental health and safety within the facility
- Manage federal, state, and local outside agencies for routine safety inspections
- Lead local safety and environmental programs and provide direction for facility
- Stay up to date on federal, state, and local regulations related to environmental health and safety and advise management on emerging trends and changes in regulations, assisting in the implementation of necessary measures to maintain compliance
- Develop and oversee incident response plans and procedures
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and other safety incidents to identify root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
- Ensure proper onsite management and offsite disposal of solid, universal, and hazardous wastes to protect water quality and comply with applicable regulations
- Conduct daily activities including incident review, risk assessment, action item tracking, reporting, 5S/CI events, and project tracking
- Working with SPX Corporate, Director EH&S to implement enterprise-wide initiatives.
2. Risk Assessment
- Manage local Safety and Environmental programs and provide direction for the facility
- Conduct regular inspections and audits for the facility to assess compliance with safety regulations and internal policies; provide recommendations and guidance for corrective actions as needed
- Develop and implement safety protocols, policies, and procedures to mitigate risks and hazards in the workplace including Job Safety Analyses.
- Collaborate with management to develop and maintain emergency response plans. Conduct drills and exercises to assess the effectiveness of emergency protocols and ensure employees are prepared
- Drive closure of recommendations to reduce identified risks Communication and Documentation
- Establish and implement facility and organizational safety communications to ensure employees are aware of potential hazards and safety initiatives
- Develop, deliver, and track environmental and safety training, increase awareness and drive safety practices
- Maintain exact records and documentation related to safety programs, incidents, inspections, and training activities
- Develop, manage, and check monthly metrics and audits for EHS
- Prepare reports and presentations on safety performance, trends, and recommendations for management
- Regularly communicate with leadership on projects, ongoing issues, and opportunities
3. Communication and documentation
- Collaborate with team members and support management of change at the site
- Evaluate new equipment installations, manufacturing process and chemical/material changes for potential EHS risks
- Ensure contractors are pre-approved and safe work practices are communicated
- Manage multiple aspects of EHS as it relates to site renovations, including maintaining current operations.
- Establish and implement facility and organizational safety communications to ensure employees are aware of potential hazards and safety initiatives
- Develop, deliver, and track environmental and safety training, increase awareness and drive safety practices
- Maintain exact records and documentation related to safety programs, incidents, inspections, and training activities
- Develop, manage, and check monthly metrics and audits for EHS
- Prepare reports and presentations on safety performance, trends, and recommendations for management
- Regularly communicate with leadership on projects, ongoing issues, and opportunities
4. Continous improvement
- Evaluate manufacturing processes, equipment, and machinery to identify potential safety hazards
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate, recommend and implement improvements to processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to enhance workplace safety
- Champion initiatives that identify and communicate facility risk exposure and prioritize risk reduction needs
- Manage and lead safety board and safety recognition programs
- Support facility-wide continuous improvement and lead efforts to reduce or eliminate solid wastes by reducing process wastes, reusing, and recycling
- Participate in other projects as assigned that relate to the overall goals of the department and organization
- Drive sustainability through reduction of waste streams to land fills and reduced water discharge into city sewers. Support programs to reduce electricity consumption.
5. Project Management
- Collaborate with team members and support management of change at the site

- Manage multiple aspects of EHS as it relates to site renovations, including maintaining current operations
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
- Experience 10 – 15 years in an environmental health and safety role in a lean manufacturing environment
- Experience in managing large projects including facility expansions or renovations
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience in technical regulatory topics including lockout/tag out, machine guarding, forklift, industrial hygiene, etc.
- Experience with new facility start-up and management of change implementation
- Proven experience managing and implementing projects
- In depth knowledge of environmental, health, and safety laws, regulations, and standards
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and associated safety hazards
- Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and lean manufacturing principles
- Training and facilitation experience and capability
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey complex safety concepts to diverse audiences
- Analytical mindset with the proven ability to assess risks, identify trends, interpret operational needs, and recommend appropriate corrective actions
- Problem solving and data analysis skills Demonstrated ability to collaborate, influence, and coach stakeholders at varying levels of the organization
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple project simultaneously
- Proficiency in using software applications and tools for safety reporting, data analysis, and documentation
- Strong PC skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to develop summary graphs, tables, pivot tables, and other reports using PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred
- Certified Safety professional preferred First Aid/CPR certification preferred
Travel & Working Environment
- 50% Travel Manufacturing environment with potential exposure to weather conditions, and/or noise
