How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. We are opening a new campus facility that will have two of our businesses (Marley and Ingenia Technologies) evolving and growing together at one site. As the Plant Manager and campus lead, you will be responsible both for achieving operational performance of the Ingenia operations but also leading the shared campus services which support both businesses. As a leader of this organization, you will be implementing work strategies and motivating a new site worker staff within an evolving high-growth environment. This position is both strategic and tactical in nature and will drive capacity optimization and expansion of both businesses. This is a hands-on position that will ultimately support ~300 employees, on one site. Key to this role will be to learn the highly automated, design, engineering and manufacturing system at Ingenia and Marley and lead efforts to institutionalize key processes / capabilities to support proactive capacity growth at the facility in concert with planned market expansion. You will be expected to support the development of the site from greenfield development through production launch as part of the project team and then transition to lead daily operational performance with a continuous improvement of culture environment.
Reporting into the Director of Operations of Ingenia, this position is also responsible for maintaining and oversee master scheduling, quality, throughput, continuous improvement, material handling, inventory turns, assets, operating expense, and EHS around critical performance metrics.
Key process areas of responsibility include
• Production planning & master scheduling
• Staffing plans and deployment at campus to achieve and maintain capacity and on-time delivery required to meet customer expectations.
• Assembly processes in each of panel, subsystem and final assembly
• Equipment maintenance to minimize equipment downtime
• SPX EH&S system to measure, monitor and improve safety performance
• Maintain Value Stream Maps and Continuous Improvement Roadmaps and information for each manufacturing cell to ensure balance across manufacturing cells when driving capacity expansion
This role has a high degree of presence and involvement with critical organizational functions requiring mentoring to key leaders to improve the overall performance and capacity output of the business.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment for all employees in manufacturing locations, driving a safety culture.
• Leads plant with a culture of Lean. Strategic Planning driving Annual Planning, Process Mapping, Standard Work, OEE, CI, Kaizen, etc.
• Manages the daily operations of the plant
• Prepares and reviews SPX production performance reports
• Drive efficiencies and optimization by analyzing opportunities.
• Develop and empower team members through coaching, counseling and inspiring them to perform to world-class standards.
• Ensure quality assurance, proper controls and effective use of best practices to drive an integrated approach throughout the business.
• Safety: Provide leadership for a safety-first culture; deliver improvement in key safety metrics including reduction in first fids, increased hazard identification and related corrective and preventive actions.
• Delivery: Enhance processes to achieve 95%+ on-time delivery in full to promise-dates for both product (Marley and Ingenia).
• Productivity: Achieve year-over-year increases in overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), labor efficiency
• Maintenance: Optimize machinery and equipment with regular maintenance programs
• Ensure employee engagement through leadership and communication.
• Build Operations functional capability to support growth and continuous improvement
• Agility and flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing growth forecasts
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
• 10+ years of progressive experience leading operations with automated manufacturing of sheet metal fabrication operations
• Experience leading development of greenfield facility into production operations
• Experience in developing and maintaining a continuous improvement culture and capacity optimization within and across facilities, using Lean tools and operational analysis
• Understanding of machining, stamping, and large product assembly.
• Shop floor control approaches and use of Lean manufacturing tools.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Excellent project management skills and ability to lead groups in a matrix organization
• Ability to effectively lead people, including the abilities to motivate, train, coach, influence and listen to others
• Lean / continuous improvement training
• Ability to solve immediate issues, as well as form long-term business plans, based on strategic business knowledge, specifically as it relates to manufacturing and operations
• Knowledge of the effective use of integrated manufacturing systems and familiarity with Industry 4.0 manufacturing.
Education & Certifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering with relevant experience.
• MBA preferred
Travel & Working Environment
• Travel will be required at times; Plants located in various locations in United states and Mirabel, QC Canada.
