How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Human Resources Co-op to join our dynamic team.
As the Human Resources Co-Op, you will bridge the gap between classroom theory and professional practice by supporting key HR functions, including talent acquisition, employee onboarding, data management, employee engagement and communication. Reporting to the HR Manager, you will gain comprehensive exposure to the employee lifecycle while contributing to projects that enhance our workplace culture and ensure operational excellence.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
- Talent Acquisition Support: Assist with the full-cycle recruitment process, including posting job openings, screening resumes against requirements, and coordinating interview schedules.
- Onboarding & Offboarding: Facilitate new hire orientations, process essential employment paperwork (e.g., I-9 verification), and assist with exit interview documentation.
- HRIS & Data Maintenance: Update and audit employee records in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) to ensure data accuracy and compliance with retention schedules.
- Employee Relations & Support: Act as a first point of contact for general employee inquiries regarding company policies, benefits, and payroll.
- Special Projects: Support HR initiatives such as employee engagement events, and diversity and inclusion programs.
- Compliance & Reporting: Assist in preparing HR-related reports and maintaining digital and physical filing systems in accordance with labor laws.
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
- Basic HR Knowledge: Foundational understanding of US employment laws (e.g., EEO, FLSA) and core HR principles.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data entry and PowerPoint for presentations.
Preferred Experience and Knowledge
- Prior Exposure: Previous internship or administrative experience in a corporate or fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- System Familiarity: Basic experience with HRIS platforms (Success Factors, Dayforce) or Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).
- Industry Involvement: Participation in a SHRM student chapter or other relevant HR-related organizations.
- Advanced Tools: Experience with data analytics (Power BI), and AI Tools (Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for interacting with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- Attention to Detail: High level of precision when managing sensitive employee data and complex documentation.
- Confidentiality: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with extreme discretion and ethical judgment.
- Organization: Strong time management and prioritization skills to balance multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
- Interpersonal Skills: Approachable demeanor with a customer-service mindset to effectively resolve workplace issues.
Education & Certifications
- Academic Enrollment: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field.
