How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As the Lead, Applications Engineer, you will provide technical and people leadership for a team of application engineers supporting the Strobic Air Technologies business. You will drive engineering excellence by ensuring consistent application standards, delivering innovative customer solutions, and developing a high-performing team. Working closely with Sales, Product Management, Manufacturing, and Engineering, you will help position Strobic Air as the industry leader in high-performance engineered air movement solutions.

Leadership
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of application engineers through performance management, technical development, and career coaching.
- Establish clear performance expectations and accountability for quality, responsiveness, and customer satisfaction.
- Foster a collaborative, customer-focused, continuous improvement culture.
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the technical expert for complex engineered ventilation applications.
- Review and approve application designs, equipment selections, performance calculations, and customer submittals.
- Ensure engineering solutions comply with applicable codes, standards, and company design practices.
Business Partnership
- Partner with Sales to provide technical support for strategic customer opportunities.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations to improve products and customer experience.
- Support new product introductions, product launches, and engineering change initiatives.
Operational Excellence
- Develop standardized engineering processes, documentation, and best practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering efficiency through process improvements and technology.
- Monitor engineering KPIs including:
- Quote turnaround
- Design accuracy
- Customer response time
- Productivity
- Quality metrics
Customer Support
- Support customers, consulting engineers, contractors, and representatives with technical application guidance.
- Resolve complex engineering issues while maintaining strong customer relationships.
- Represent Strobic Air during customer meetings, factory visits, and industry events.
What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
- 3-5 years of progressive HVAC, industrial ventilation, or engineered equipment application engineering experience.
- Minimum 3 years leading engineering professionals.
- Strong understanding of:
- HVAC system design
- Airflow and fan selection
- Acoustics
- CFD concepts (preferred)
- Building ventilation
- Mechanical systems
- Demonstrated experience supporting engineered-to-order products.
- Experience interpreting mechanical drawings and project specifications.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with industry standards and codes (ASHRAE, AHRI, etc.).
- Experience with selection software and system modeling tools.
- Ability to influence and drive alignment across diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Experience with laboratory ventilation systems
- High plume exhaust systems
- Industrial exhaust applications
- Mission-critical ventilation
- Fan selection software
- AutoCAD or SolidWorks
- ERP systems
- CRM systems
- Lean manufacturing
- Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
Travel & Working Environment

- Travel up to 15–20% domestically to support customer meetings, project commissioning, representative training, manufacturing locations, and industry events.
