How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Material Handler - Receiving, you play a critical role in supporting production and inventory accuracy by ensuring materials are received, inspected, documented, stored, and delivered to appropriate locations safely and efficiently. Your work helps maintain material flow, inventory integrity, and operational excellence while supporting internal and external customer expectations.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities to SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

 

Safety

  • Follow all safety rules and adhere to core value of business.
  • Maintain clean, orderly work areas and equipment.
  • Report repairs and/or issues to team lead or supervisor.

 

Receiving & Material Management

  • Receive incoming materials, components, and supplies from vendors and carriers.
  • Verify shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and receiving documentation.
  • Inspect incoming materials for damage, shortages, or discrepancies and report issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Accurately process receiving transactions within ERP/MRP systems.
  • Label, identify, and properly store materials in designated warehouse locations.
  • Deliver materials to production and other internal departments to support operational requirements.
  • Maintain inventory organization and warehouse housekeeping standards.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with unloading trucks and staging materials for inspection and storage.
  • Maintain material-handling equipment through pre-use inspections and reporting maintenance needs.

 

Inventory Control & Accuracy

  • Maintain inventory accuracy through proper material identification, labelling, and storage practices.
  • Record inventory locations and transactions accurately within ERP/MRP systems.
  • Assist with cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory reconciliation activities.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages, discrepancies, or damaged materials.
  • Follow established material handling and inventory control procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with supervisors, planners, purchasing, and production personnel to resolve inventory issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve inventory accuracy and warehouse efficiency.
  • Ensure materials are available to production in accordance with production schedules and priorities.
  • Review orders for quality and accuracy, cross-check attached documents.
  • Maintains inventory by identifying, labelling, and keeping materials and supplies in stock, recording location of inventory, and reporting shortages.
  • Seek help when unsure on resolution, collaborating closely with team lead/supervisor and shipping team.
  • Follow processes for expedite shipments affecting the production schedule.

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

 

Required Experience 

  • 1+ year experience in warehouse, receiving, inventory control, or manufacturing operations.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Experience using inventory management systems or ERP systems preferred.
  • Dependability

 

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of receiving processes and inventory control practices. Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to read packing slips, purchase orders, and receiving documentation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to safety and quality.

  • High school diploma, or equivalent
