This is a position with WM Technologies, LLC and affiliate of SPX Enterprises, LLC, which manufactures and sells Weil-McLain® branded products. Weil-McLain® is a leading North American brand of hydronic comfort heating systems for residential, commercial, and institutional buildings since 1881.
How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Technical Training Manager, you will serve as a field-based technical expert responsible for developing and delivering high-quality hydronic heating product, application, installation, and troubleshooting training to contractors, distributors, engineers, sales professionals, and other industry partners. You will support Regional and Territory Sales Managers by strengthening technical competency throughout the channel, supporting new product introductions, and helping customers confidently specify, install, service, and troubleshoot Weil-McLain products.
This role combines deep hydronics expertise with exceptional teaching and communication skills. You will translate complex technical concepts into practical, hands-on learning experiences; provide field technical support for new and existing products; and serve as an important connection between customers, Sales, Product Management, Technical Service, and Engineering. Through effective technical education and field engagement, you will help strengthen customer relationships, accelerate product adoption, identify market opportunities, and reinforce Weil-McLain as a trusted technical resource within the hydronics industry.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
- Provide technical training expertise within region
- Develop and conduct advanced technical product and service training for contractors, distributors, utilities, engineers, sales personnel, and other industry professionals.
- Develop and deliver technical training through multiple formats, including instructor-led classroom, virtual/online, field-based, and hands-on instruction covering hydronic heating products, applications, installation, operation, maintenance, controls, and troubleshooting.
- Design and develop technical training content, modules, presentations, demonstrations, and supporting materials for the Weil-McLain School of Better Heating and other customer and employee training programs.
- Facilitate School of Better Heating programs and other regional or national technical training events.
- Provide professional technical guidance and support during customer and contractor training meetings.
- Conduct “Train the Trainer” sessions with sales team members in preparation for new product meetings, distributor training, contractor education, and other customer-facing activities.
- Train new sales employees to strengthen product knowledge and their ability to provide effective sales, service, application, and technical support.
- Assess field knowledge and identify individual or organizational training needs, recommending appropriate education and development solutions.
- Continuously strengthen technical training content based on product developments, field experience, recurring technical questions, and customer needs.
- Field Technical Support & Product Expertise
- Serve as a technical hydronics resource to Regional and Territory Sales Managers, distributors, contractors, engineers, and other field personnel.
- Provide field technical support for new products, revisions to existing products, and complex product or application issues.
- Provide technical guidance on challenging field installations and problem jobs, helping identify application, installation, operational, or troubleshooting issues and associated training needs.
- Apply knowledge of mechanical and electrical boiler applications to assist customers and field personnel with installation, operation, controls, and troubleshooting.
- Support proper product application and installation practices through practical technical education and field consultation.
- Act as a technical expert representing Weil-McLain at local, regional, and national trade shows, industry events, customer meetings, and technical forums.
- Assist with product liability investigations, depositions, and trials as needed by providing appropriate technical expertise and product knowledge.
- Sales & Channel Support
- Partner with Regional and Territory Sales Managers to strengthen technical capabilities throughout the distributor and contractor network.
- Use technical training and education to support lead generation, customer engagement, product adoption, and advancement of qualified sales opportunities.
- Help move opportunities generated through training and field engagement through the sales funnel in partnership with the appropriate sales resources.
- Support customer and channel confidence in Weil-McLain products by providing credible, practical, and technically accurate guidance.
- Identify opportunities where technical education, application support, or field engagement can help strengthen customer relationships and support sales objectives.
- Utilize CRM tools to capture relevant customer, training, lead, and opportunity information and support appropriate follow-up and reporting.
- Product, Engineering & Field Collaboration
- Interface regularly with Product Management, Technical Service, Engineering, Sales, and Training teams to maintain current knowledge of product changes, new products, application opportunities, technical issues, and training priorities.
- Translate new product information, engineering changes, application requirements, and technical developments into effective field training and educational content.
- Provide meaningful field feedback to Product Management, Engineering, Technical Service, and Sales regarding product performance, application challenges, customer needs, and recurring technical issues.
- Identify and recommend training materials, troubleshooting resources, technical documentation, and sales and marketing collateral needed to support customers and field personnel.
- Communicate recurring product and service issues through monthly reporting to Product Management and Engineering, with appropriate visibility to Regional Sales Managers.
- Support new product introductions by helping prepare sales personnel and channel partners with the technical knowledge required for successful product application and adoption.
- Provide field input supporting product changes and the development of new products in collaboration with Engineering and Marketing.
- Training Effectiveness & Program Development
- Maintain organized training schedules, materials, records, follow-up activities, and associated program documentation.
- Evaluate participant feedback, recurring field questions, technical support trends, and other available information to identify opportunities to strengthen training effectiveness.
- Recommend updates to training content, delivery methods, demonstrations, and supporting resources based on field experience and evolving customer needs.
- Support consistent technical messaging and training quality across customer, distributor, contractor, and internal training programs.
- Maintain current technical knowledge of Weil-McLain products, hydronic heating applications, relevant industry practices, and emerging technologies through ongoing professional development and field engagement.

Required Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience within the hydronics, HVAC, boiler, or related mechanical equipment industry, including field sales, technical service, installation, application, training, or comparable experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical applications associated with boiler installations.
- Strong technical knowledge of hydronic heating systems, boiler applications, installation practices, controls, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to understand, diagnose, and communicate complex mechanical and electrical product and application issues.
- Strong public speaking, facilitation, and presentation skills with the ability to confidently deliver technical instruction to groups of varying sizes and technical backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical, understandable instruction for contractors, distributors, engineers, sales professionals, and other audiences.
- Strong professional and technical competency with the credibility to serve as a trusted field resource.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to coordinate training activities, travel schedules, follow-up actions, and multiple priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills with the ability to develop practical solutions that support customers, channel partners, and the business.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across Sales, Engineering, Product Management, Technical Service, Marketing, and other functions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
- Experience utilizing CRM systems for customer information, activity tracking, lead management, and reporting.
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50%, including overnight travel.
Preferred Experience
- Significant hands-on experience installing, commissioning, servicing, or troubleshooting hydronic boiler systems.
- Experience developing and delivering technical training within the HVAC, hydronics, plumbing, or mechanical equipment industries.
- Experience developing technical curriculum, training modules, demonstrations, presentations, and instructional materials.
- Experience providing technical support to distributors, contractors, consulting engineers, utilities, or field sales organizations.
- Knowledge of commercial and residential hydronic system design and application principles.
- Experience supporting new product introductions and translating technical product information into field training.
- Experience presenting at industry trade shows, association meetings, customer events, or other professional forums.
- Ability to build credibility and establish trusted relationships with contractors, distributors, engineers, sales professionals, and internal technical teams.
- Self-directed and comfortable working independently in a field-based role while maintaining strong communication and alignment with the broader organization.
Education & Certifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree, technical degree, or technical certification in HVAC, Mechanical Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education, technical training, and substantial hydronics industry or field experience will be considered.
- Relevant HVAC, hydronics, boiler, electrical, controls, or industry certifications are desirable.
Physical Demands

- Frequent computer and keyboard use while developing training materials, reports, presentations, and customer communications.
- Frequent standing and walking for extended periods while conducting classroom instruction, hands-on demonstrations, trade shows, and customer training events.
- Ability to speak and present technical information to groups for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, transport, and set up training materials, tools, demonstration equipment, product components, and presentation materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.
- Frequent travel by automobile and commercial aircraft, including transporting training and demonstration materials.
- Occasional bending, kneeling, reaching, crouching, and climbing while inspecting equipment, accessing installations, or conducting product demonstrations.
- Ability to safely access mechanical rooms, boiler rooms, manufacturing facilities, training laboratories, and active construction sites as required.
Travel & Working Environment
- Chicago-based field/remote position requiring approximately 50% travel, including overnight travel.
- Travel includes customer and contractor locations, distributor facilities, training centers, trade shows, industry events, company facilities, and field installations.
- Work is performed in a combination of home-office, classroom, training laboratory, customer, manufacturing, mechanical room, and field environments.
- Regular exposure to mechanical rooms, boiler rooms, manufacturing facilities, and construction environments where appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety footwear, hard hats, eye protection, and hearing protection, may be required.
- May be exposed to varying temperatures, noise, dust, airborne particulates, and other industrial or construction-related conditions while providing technical training or field support.
- Position requires flexibility in scheduling to accommodate customer training, travel, trade shows, and other field activities.
