How you will make an Impact (Job Summary) 

The Warehouse Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day warehouse operations for the Cooling business, ensuring the safe, efficient, and accurate movement of materials throughout the facility. This position provides direct leadership to the Materials Supervisor and warehouse team members responsible for receiving, put away, inventory control, material movement, picking, packing, crating, and shipment preparation.

In addition, the Warehouse Manager will lead a team of Logistics Coordinators responsible for domestic and international shipping activities, carrier coordination, freight management, and transportation execution. The role is accountable for operational performance, inventory accuracy, SAP inventory integrity, warehouse location accuracy, inventory visibility, productivity, customer service, safety, quality, working capital support, and continuous improvement initiatives across both warehouse and shipping functions.

The successful candidate will have strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, along with experience driving warehouse efficiencies, inventory accuracy, and logistics performance. Experience with SAP and Over-Dimensional (OD) shipments is preferred.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities) 

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be: 

  • Lead all day-to-day warehouse operations, including receiving, put away, storage, material movement, picking, packing, crating, and shipping activities.
  • Directly manage the Materials Supervisor and provide leadership, coaching, and development for warehouse personnel.
  • Own warehouse inventory accuracy and SAP inventory integrity for warehouse-controlled materials. Ensure receiving, put away, transfers, picks, production issues, returns, inventory adjustments, and shipment transactions are completed accurately and on time.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve warehouse location management standards, including warehouse layout, storage location setup, bin or location assignments, labeling, material identification, capacity limits, location audits, and location master accuracy in SAP and related systems.
  • Develop and maintain warehouse slotting and storage strategies based on material dimensions, handling requirements, material velocity, product family, project requirements, frequency of use, safety requirements, and available space.
  • Lead the cycle count program and annual physical inventory process. Investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and ensure timely reconciliation of physical inventory to SAP records.
  • Monitor and improve inventory control performance, including inventory record accuracy, location accuracy, cycle count completion, count variance, transaction timeliness, inventory adjustments, aging inventory, inventory turns, days on hand, excess inventory, and obsolete inventory.
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Sourcing, Operations, Finance, Quality, Engineering, and Project Management to identify, reduce, segregate, protect, disposition, and prevent excess, slow moving, damaged, nonconforming, inactive, and obsolete inventory.
  • Support working capital improvement through improved inventory visibility, material rotation, inventory accuracy, location discipline, disposition of inactive material, warehouse space optimization, and elimination of unnecessary or duplicate inventory.
  • Establish and maintain safe material handling practices and ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Develop and monitor warehouse performance metrics related to productivity, inventory accuracy, location accuracy, cycle count performance, inventory adjustments, inventory aging, inventory turns, order fulfillment, on-time shipment, safety, and quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on warehouse efficiency, space utilization, inventory management, and labor productivity.
  • Manage packaging and crating activities to ensure products are adequately protected and shipped in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Oversee domestic and international shipping operations through direct leadership of Logistics Coordinators.
  • Ensure timely and accurate shipment of customer orders from SPX facilities and supplier locations.
  • Manage the coordination of transportation activities with carriers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders to support customer delivery requirements.
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Operations, Sourcing Project Management, Finance, Quality, and Engineering to support business objectives and resolve warehouse, inventory, packaging, transportation, and shipping-related issues.
  • Utilize SAP and other business systems to manage inventory transactions, storage locations, inventory status, physical inventory, warehouse processes, shipment execution, and reporting.
  • Partner with SAP, Supply Chain, Finance, and IT resources to improve inventory-related master data, including material status, units of measure, storage locations, location assignments, and reporting parameters.
  • Ensure appropriate controls are maintained for quality hold, quarantine, nonconforming, customer owned, project specific, return, excess, and obsolete material to prevent unauthorized use, shipment, loss, or inaccurate inventory reporting.
  • Support transportation process improvements and system enhancements to improve operational efficiency and service levels.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for inventory discrepancies, transaction errors, mislocated material, negative inventory balances, cycle count variances, material damage, and recurring inventory control failures.
  • Partner with and support the Materials Manager in executing site materials, inventory, warehouse, logistics, and shipping strategies. Participate in inventory planning reviews, SAP process improvements, working capital initiatives, materials flow optimization, and cross functional supply chain projects. Develop the leadership capability and business knowledge required to assume broader materials management responsibilities as organizational needs and demonstrated performance warrant.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in warehouse, materials, logistics, or supply chain leadership roles.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Previous experience leading warehouse operations and personnel required.
  • Experience managing inventory control and material handling operations required.
  • Demonstrated experience owning inventory accuracy, SAP transaction discipline, inventory adjustments, and physical to system inventory reconciliation strongly preferred.
  • Experience establishing or maintaining warehouse storage locations, warehouse layout, location control processes, slotting strategies, and material identification standards preferred.
  • Experience managing shipping, transportation, and logistics functions preferred.

 

Certifications 

  • Strong leadership and employee development skills.
  • Experience with SAP required; SAP Warehouse Management experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SAP inventory transactions, including goods receipt, goods issue, transfer posting, transfer orders, inventory adjustments, physical inventory, and storage location controls preferred.
  • Experience coordinating domestic and international shipments.
  • Experience planning and executing Over-Dimensional (OD) shipments preferred.
  • Working knowledge of transportation, freight, and logistics terminology.
  • HazMat certification or experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to analyze and improve inventory metrics, including inventory accuracy, location accuracy, inventory adjustments, cycle count performance, inventory aging, inventory turns, days on hand, excess inventory, and obsolete inventory.
  • Experience supporting working capital improvement and cross functional efforts to reduce slow moving, excess, and obsolete inventory preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
