As part of Detection and Measurement, CUES is the world’s leading developer of water, wastewater, and storm water inspection equipment.   With CCTV cameras, pre-built vehicles, and software for pipeline inspection and rehabilitation, we improve the safety and reliability of our water infrastructure systems.

 

How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Lead Quality Control Specialist, you will coordinate daily quality control activities on the production floor, ensuring that all products and processes meet company standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications. You will support RMA, NCR, and MRB processes at the operational level, provide day-to-day guidance and mentorship to QC Specialists, Inspectors, and Associates, facilitate problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives, and act as a critical link between frontline inspectors and higher-level quality management, escalating issues to the Supervisor or Manager as needed. In this role, you play a key part in maintaining product quality, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. QC Leadership & Team Development:
  • Lead and guide QC Specialists and Associates in performing inspections, tests, and measurements on incoming, in-process, and finished products.
  • Assign daily QC tasks, monitor work progress, and ensure adherence to procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Train and mentor new team members on inspection methods, quality standards, and RMA/NCR/MRB handling.
  • Promote a culture of quality, problem-solving, continuous improvement, and accountability within the QC team.

 

  1. Inspection, Compliance & Documentation
  • Conduct spot-checks and audits to validate inspection accuracy and compliance with CUES Standards as applicable.
  • Maintain accurate and complete quality records, ensuring traceability and compliance with ISO/other regulatory frameworks as applicable
  • Verify that all inspection tools are properly calibrated; coordinate with Metrology/Calibration teams for service when out-of-tolerance or overdue

 

  1.   Nonconformance & MRB Quarantine Management
  • Coordinate MRB (Material Review Board) activities at the shop-floor level by segregating, tagging, and tracking nonconforming material pending disposition.
  • Support NCR (Non-Conformance Report) processes by initiating reports, ensuring accurate documentation, and escalating systemic issues.
  • Monitor MRB inventory levels and escalate when material is at risk of aging or disrupting production flow.
  • Assist in root cause analysis, containment, and corrective actions in collaboration with Production and Quality Engineering

 

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in Quality Control or Manufacturing, with at least 1–2 years in a team-leading or mentoring role.
  • Strong knowledge of inspection methods, measurement tools, MRB/NCR processes, and quality standards (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.).

 

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and test procedures.
  • Effective communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with quality systems, ERP/MRP, and Microsoft Office.
  • Self-starter with ability to manage and prioritize daily tasks to meet departmental and company objectives.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, and Word.

 

Education & Certifications

  • Formal training in Lean Manufacturing principles, or Lean Sigma tools.
  • Training and certifications in GD&T and IPC 600/610/620
  • ASQ or CQE certification.

 

Travel & Working Environment

  • Standard work hours:  M-F, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
  • Machine shop, manufacturing, material storage, and office environments.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary for training, supplier assessments, etc.  Travel may include overnight stays
  • Requires performing work at a desk and computer; standing and walking throughout manufacturing and office areas for extended periods, handling of hardware under evaluation, set-up and use of metrology and test equipment, and occasionally involves working outside of facility.
  • Occasionally lifting objects up to 40lbs without assistance.
