How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Mechanical Engineering CAD Software Specialist, you will be responsible to set standards, develop libraries, identify, develop and lead strategic productivity initiatives, support/train mechanical engineering CAD users - including PDM integration, and act as a subject matter expert to the broader mechanical engineering and CAD organizations. The successful candidate will have an advanced understanding of SolidWorks, PDM, GD&T, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), the engineering design/change process and strong customer focus to support the user community.

 

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Engineering software solutions development within mechanical design software:
  • Act as subject matter expert to the organization regarding SolidWorks CAD/PDM applications, design standards, and business processes. Coordinate training as needed.
  • Develop a CUES modeling standard and get team buy-in.
  • Develop efficient library structure and oversee model entry to ensure these conform to the modeling standard.
  • Develop PDM workflows to align CAD data management with new product development and change processes.
  • Identify, recommend, plan, and execute continuous improvement (CI) initiatives to drive cost savings and increase efficiency of the ME CAD/PDM suite and associated processes.
  • Lead efforts to identify and develop new engineering solutions to support mechanical engineering team members.
  • Coordinate effectively with IT team members to assist in collaborative development projects requiring IT support.
  • Plan and execute necessary application upgrades, user support.
  • Develop and maintain best practices, training material, and tools to increase user efficiency and effectiveness.

 

  1. Engineering software administration/support:
  • In partnership with the broader organization, participate in all aspects of application support for mechanical engineering applications. As need arises, also lead, or coordinate with other team members on applications and initiatives.
  • Coordinate Mechanical CAD coordination with other SPX divisions as appropriate.
  • Test, validate, and deploy new releases of engineering software.
  • Responsible for MCAD software administration. This includes all MCAD customization or configuration to support business needs, process, best practices and updates.
  • Support CAD/PLM rollout initiatives.

 

  1.   CAD library   
  • Develop and maintain design standards and best practices for mechanical engineering applications and processes.
  • Monitor and consult with users to ensure adherence to best practices and standards.
  • Act as a gatekeeper/approver for library parts.
  • Build, structure, and promote CAD libraries to increase productivity and promote design reuse.
  • Lead/coordinate resources to align and populate libraries for SolidWorks.

 

  1.   Mechanical Design
  • Design and develop mechanical components and systems ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
  • Own design tasks from concept through testing, and release ensuring requirements and timelines are met throughout the project.
  • Create detailed layout, prints, parts specifications, and bill of materials for components and systems.
  • Conduct product and component testing in accordance with CUES standards and recognized approval agency requirements and codes, such as UL, ANSI, ISO, and/or CSA.
  • Identify potential technical improvements to existing products/processes/services or cost reductions.

 

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • Associate’s degree in mechanical engineering, CAD Drafting/Design or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience as a mechanical engineer or 15+ years as a machine designer.
  • 5-10 years of work experience in SolidWorks including custom engineered products, complex mechanisms.
  • Support and Technical experience for core PLM and engineering process such as:
  • CAD Data Management
  • BOM Management
  • Product Change Management
  • Functional and technical experience with applications such as:
    • Microsoft suite of applications
    • General Engineering tools and applications
  • Extensive experience in delivering world class customer support in the PLM and Engineering domain regarding:
    • Managing Engineering Operations support
    • Developing productivity enhancements within MCAD software and deploying across userbase
    • Development and review of best practices and user training material
    • Engineering/CAD library development
    • Project scoping, planning and execution
    • Defining deliverables timelines in accordance with the overall project timelines

 

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity administering with Autodesk Inventor and Vault.
  • Extensive machine design experience
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor team members and userbase.
  • Ability to work effectively with leaders across the organization, suppliers, contractors and customers.
  • Extreme customer focus, delivering value to our business users and organization.
  • Effectively able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Extensive experience influencing business change.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and agile abilities working with dynamic teams to solve problems and provide solutions.
  • High communication skills required at all levels. Must be able to interact and impact senior leadership. Excellent command of verbal and written communication (English). Effective presentation style for all levels of stakeholders.

  • Travel Not Required
  • Hybrid Role, Minimum 3 days in office per week.
