How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
The Contracts Manager – FEP is a critical role within the Cooling Platform, responsible for leading commercial contract review, risk assessment, and negotiation support across Field Erected Products (FEP) and select Data Center Cooling opportunities. This position serves as the primary first-pass reviewer for customer contracts, ensuring alignment with SPX standards, protection of margin, and effective management of commercial risk.
Partnering closely with Sales, Proposal Management, Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, and Legal, this role enables faster contract turnaround, strengthens commercial discipline, and supports scalable growth in complex, project-based environments.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
- Develop and execute commercial strategies to drive profitable growth across power and heavy industrial markets
- Direct and integrate cross-functional teams including Sales, Estimating, Proposal Management, Project Management, Materials Management, and Field Construction
- Actively engage in key pursuits, customer relationships, contract structuring, and risk assessment to secure high-quality bookings
- Ensure successful execution of complex, EPC-style projects, delivering on safety, quality, schedule, and financial commitments
- Drive disciplined project management practices, including cost control, forecasting accuracy, and materials coordination
- Build and maintain a healthy project backlog aligned with strategic growth objectives
- Lead risk management efforts across the business, proactively mitigating risks inherent in construction-driven, field-erected projects
- Champion a strong safety culture across all field operations, reinforcing accountability in both union and open shop environments
- Provide hands-on leadership to develop organizational capability, strengthen talent, and drive accountability across teams
- Partner with senior leadership on long-term strategic planning, including market positioning, customer targeting, and business model evolution
The role will be measured on:
- Contract review turnaround time
- Quality and consistency of risk identification and mitigation
- Reduction in Legal escalations for first-pass reviews
- Support of bookings conversion and proposal cycle time
- Contribution to margin protection and risk-adjusted deal quality
What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience & Skills
- 5+ years of experience in contract management, commercial management, or contract administration
- Strong understanding of commercial contract terms including liability, indemnity, LDs, warranties, insurance, and payment structures
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, scope documents, and project requirements
- Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities in a fast-paced, project-based environment
Ideal Experience & Skills
- Experience in HVAC, construction, industrial equipment, EPC, or similar project-based industries
- Experience supporting large capital projects or field-erected solutions
- Demonstrated ability to assess commercial risk and recommend mitigation strategies
- Experience developing contract templates, clause libraries, or standardized workflows
- Familiarity with tools or technologies that support contract review efficiency
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or related field required
- Professional certifications in contract management (e.g., WorldCC/IACCM, NCMA) are a plus
Travel & Working Environment
- Travel: ~25%
- Environment: Mix of office, customer sites, and active construction/field locations
