How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As an Engineer I – Product Development, you will provide engineering support for projects across multiple business units, assisting with the research, design, and development of new or improved products. Working under immediate to general supervision and following established procedures, you will perform assigned engineering tasks with work reviewed by more senior engineers. This role collaborates closely with manufacturing, sourcing, and cross-functional teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet project requirements, while supporting innovation, continuous improvement, and awareness of evolving technology and industry trends.
This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

- Product Design & Engineering Development
- Develop new product designs, solid models, and engineering specifications.
- Complete thermal performance selections and support design validation.
- Develop solutions to technical challenges and continuous product improvements.
- Testing, Validation, & Technical Support
- Conduct product testing during development and post-installation to verify performance.
- Witness third-party contractual testing as required.
- Interface with internal and external customers to address technical performance issues.
- Project & Vendor Coordination
- Manage project tasks and schedules to support on-time delivery.
- Review, approve, and control vendor-supplied engineering documentation.
- Supports projects globally, with primary responsibility for the America’s region.
What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience & Skills
- 2–5 years of relevant engineering experience (or 1–3 years with an advanced degree)
- Working knowledge of fundamental engineering principles and practices within a relevant discipline
- Experience with solids-based CAD software and engineering documentation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and engineering data management
- Knowledge of applicable national building codes
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ideal Experience & Skills
- Exposure to HVAC, refrigeration, or industrial manufacturing environments
- Experience supporting product design, testing, or design-for-manufacturability initiatives
- Hands-on experience with SAP or other ERP platforms
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams
- Understanding of project coordination and multi-task execution
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mechanical, civil, chemical, etc.)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Advanced degree a plus
Travel & Working Environment
- Onsite office environment, Monday – Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period.
- The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours.
- Lifting up to 70 pounds.
- Bending and stooping.
- Working at heights less than 50 feet above ground.
- Occasional work with exposure to bad weather and/or excessive heat.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
