How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. The Manager, Proposal Management provides leadership and strategic oversight to the proposal and technical services team, ensuring the successful development of proposals from initial budget through order close and project handoff. This role is accountable for meeting schedule, technical, and commercial objectives while partnering cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Product Management, and Project Management to drive competitive and accurate project outcomes.
This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

- Lead Proposal Management and Team Performance
- Provide direct leadership, coaching, and development for Proposal Managers and Technical Services staff
- Establish performance metrics, assess team effectiveness, and implement training programs
- Oversee workload distribution and ensure alignment with organizational priorities
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Oversee Proposal Development and Accuracy
- Manage RFQ assignments and ensure timely, accurate proposal submissions
- Oversee the development of budgetary and firm quotes aligned with technical and commercial requirements
- Ensure accuracy of project quotes, contract reviews, and proposal documentation
- Lead bid review meetings and coordinate approval processes
- Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration and Strategy
- Serve as the primary liaison between Sales and Project Management teams
- Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Product Management to define product and market strategies
- Support field sales with technical expertise, customer presentations, and negotiations
- Contribute to contract negotiations and customer engagement activities
- Manage Forecasting, Data Analysis, and Process Improvement
- Develop and maintain large project and quote forecasts to support resource planning
- Analyze sales, margin, and win/loss data to identify trends and opportunities
- Improve proposal processes, project handoff procedures, and technical documentation workflows
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives based on post-project reviews and performance metrics
What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience & Skills
- 7+ years of professional experience, including 3+ years in proposal management or technical roles
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and driving performance outcomes
- Strong technical and commercial acumen with the ability to interpret complex project variables
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and familiarity with ERP systems
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
Ideal Experience & Skills
- Experience in HVAC, industrial processes, cooling systems, or related engineering industries
- Familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise systems
- Sales or customer-facing experience supporting technical solutions
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Exposure to AI tools or advanced analytics for process optimization
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field required
- MBA or advanced business degree preferred
- Additional certifications in project management or related disciplines are a plus
Travel & Working Environment
- Onsite office environment, Monday – Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period
- Occasional travel to customer or project sites as required
- Keyboarding/typing
- Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
- Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining attention to detail
- The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours
- Occasional outside environment; exposure to excessive noise, heat, or bad weather
