As part of HVAC Cooling, SPX Cooling Technologies is a leader in high quality industrial HVAC equipment used to cool large facilities like hospitals, data centers, and power plants. How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

As a Project Buyer, you will serve as the primary owner of project-related materials, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement in alignment with project requirements. The incumbent will evaluate supplier quality, support project delivery schedules, and manage material costs while collaborating closely with Project Management and Material Managers to achieve business objectives. This role is essential for maintaining accurate SAP data, supporting reliable revenue forecasting, and driving strong supplier performance to meet project and organizational goals
This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
- Material Procurement & Supplier Management
- Select suppliers, evaluate bids, and make purchasing decisions within authorization guidelines.
- Develop RFQs, create purchase orders, and track shipments to ensure on-time delivery.
- Monitor supplier quality, capacity, and performance, adjusting sourcing as needed.
- Project & Materials Ownership
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to define material needs.
- Own the material aspect of assigned projects, resolving issues and adapting to scope changes.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and customers regarding material status.
- Systems & Process Management
- Utilize ERP systems to manage schedules, purchases, and reporting with accuracy.
- Respond to supplier and project inquiries while maintaining complete shipment records.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and eliminate offline practices.
What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience & Skills
- 3-5 years of related experience
- Engineering application and design experience
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-function teams at all levels
Ideal Experience & Skills
- Experience in purchasing (quoting, online auctions, expediting, etc), helpful
- Knowledge of logistics, including international shipments, preferred
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, preferred
- Project management skills
- Familiarity with SAP, or other ERP systems
Education & Certifications
- Associate’s degree or technical program completion, required
- Bachelor’s degree and/or related coursework, preferred
Travel & Working Environment
- Onsite office environment, Monday – Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period
- Keyboarding/typing
- Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy
- Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally
