As part of Detection and Measurement, Aids to Navigation, including Flash, Sabik Marine and Sealite, are leading providers of lighting and navigational aids for the marine, obstruction, and airfield end markets.  Offering the broadest portfolio of solutions, we help people transverse the world safely by air, land, and sea.

 

Responsibilities:                          Drive a robust Quality Management System and product/process quality for SPX Aids to Navigation manufacturing in Europe, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and applicable customer/regulatory requirements, and leading continuous improvement through data-driven corrective and preventive actions.

 

Duties:

  • Promote and follow safe work practices and procedures to maintain a “Safety First” culture in every task undertaken.
  • Maintain, improve, and ensure effective deployment of the Quality Management System (QMS), procedures, and work instructions in line with ISO 9001:2015 and SPX requirements.
  • Prepare and present quality performance reporting (KPIs, Cost of Quality, customer/supplier metrics) in regular site and regional reviews; highlight trends, risks, and improvement actions.
  • Own quality documentation and document control, including revision control, change communication, and training/competency evidence where required.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute internal process and system audits; document findings, drive corrective actions, and verify effectiveness.
  • Support development of internal audit capability (training/qualification of internal auditors) and promote consistent audit practices across the site.
  • Drive prevention of nonconformities through risk-based thinking, layered process audits/spot checks, and effective containment, corrective and preventive actions.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Operations on quality planning for production readiness (inspection plans, control plans, critical characteristics, and quality gates) to support delivery and customer requirements.
  • Own Supplier Quality activities as required (supplier qualification, incoming quality performance, supplier audits, SCARs, and risk mitigation for critical suppliers/components).
  • Prepare routine quality dashboards for site and regional stakeholders (e.g., customer complaints, internal defects, supplier performance, audit status, and Cost of Quality).
  • Maintain quality KPI definitions, data collection methods, and records; ensure data integrity and support monthly management review inputs.
  • Coordinate and support external/third-party audits and customer audits (e.g., ISO 9001 surveillance/recertification and key customer assessments) with site leadership.
  • Provide day-to-day quality support to production teams (gemba presence), ensuring required inspections, test records, and product release criteria are understood and applied.
  • Perform product and process audits/spot checks to verify conformance to drawings, specifications, control plans, and workmanship standards.
  • Lead nonconformance and corrective action processes (NCR/CAPA), including containment, root cause analysis (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone), corrective action implementation, and effectiveness verification.
  • Investigate customer complaints/returns (including warranty returns) in partnership with Customer Service and Engineering; provide timely analysis, 8D responses where required, and corrective actions.
  • Support and coach production and quality inspection/testing personnel on inspection methods, defect criteria, and test requirements; escalate quality risks promptly.
  • Ensure effective document control and record retention, including revision control and availability of current specifications at point of use.
  • Collect, analyze, and trend quality metrics (including Cost of Quality) to identify systemic issues, trigger timely containment/escalation, and prioritize improvement opportunities.
  • Use Pareto analysis and statistical/problem-solving tools to focus improvement efforts on the highest-impact defect modes and process losses.
  • Share quality data and information with the manufacturing engineer to support the CI initiatives.
  • Contribute to the site Continuous Improvement (CI) strategy and participate in Kaizen events, focusing on defect reduction, right-first-time, and process capability improvements.
  • Perform dimensional and functional verification (e.g., off-tool samples/first article checks) using appropriate measurement methods and equipment; ensure measurement system suitability.
  • Define and execute risk-based receiving inspection in partnership with Warehouse/Receiving, including sampling plans, supplier performance-based adjustments, and disposition of nonconforming material.
  • Proactively engage suppliers to improve and sustain quality performance, including issue resolution, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support and/or lead quality aspects of Engineering Change Requests (ECR/ECO), including risk assessment, validation of inspection/test updates, and controlled implementation.
  • Own the calibration system for measurement and test equipment (calibration schedules, external calibration providers, records, and out-of-tolerance investigations).
  • Support 5S, standard work, and other Lean initiatives that improve safety, quality, and flow.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the role and the company’s quality objectives, as requested.

 

 

 

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of ISO 9001-based Quality Management Systems (QMS), including process ownership, documentation, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong customer focus with the ability to translate customer and regulatory requirements into practical quality controls.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role with a preferred focus on the manufacturing of electronic devices.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or a related technical field.
  • Solid practical knowledge of QA/QC methods, audits, root cause analysis, CAPA, and supplier quality/incoming inspection practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to support customer acceptance activities (e.g., Factory Acceptance Tests) and/or customer audits; able to work collaboratively across functions and with mixed skill levels.
  • Intermediate digital literacy (MS Offi required). Experience with ERP and/or QMS systems and Atlassian tools is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders across Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and customers/suppliers.
  • Strong analytical capability and outstanding attention to detail, with proven problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • Internal auditor training (ISO 9001) and demonstrated experience planning/executing internal audits and driving corrective actions.
  • Experience in an electronics and/or electromechanical manufacturing environment (or similarly regulated, engineered products environment).
  • Effective time management skills and ability to prioritise.
  • Be proactive and enjoy a practical working environment under minimal supervision.
