As part of Detection and Measurement, Aids to Navigation, including Flash, Sabik Marine and Sealite, are leading providers of lighting and navigational aids for the marine, obstruction, and airfield end markets. How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
This role is responsible for continuous improvement initiatives, facilitating 5S projects and meetings, solving technical problems in manufacturing, providing support and training to internal and external customers on technical issues and verifying completeness and accuracy through the release process for ECO’s.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
- Follow safe work practices, procedures and ensure a “safety first” culture in every task undertaken.
- Ability to read, understand, review and approve mechanical and electrical design drawings through our ECO process.
- Build new product prototypes and generate work instructions to ensure a complete handoff to production.
- Review and update older documentation including work instructions, SOP’s and installation guides to our revised standards.
- Troubleshoot and rectify technical problems in production.
- Collaborate with engineers and other personnel to identify, define, and solve product assembly and operational problems.
- Complete time studies to quantify processing times and identify areas for process improvements.
- Promote and support Lean Manufacturing, 5S and Continuous Improvement activities in Manufacturing.
- Provides technical support to customers and employees.
- Technical support person for Kaizen events.
- Perform any other duties as reasonably directed.
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
- Previous work experience in Engineering Technology or related position
- Previous experience with technical writing is preferred.
- Experience with Continuous improvement processes, 5S and Kaizen’s preferred.
- Experience in marine and/or aviation industries a plus
- Experience with plastic welding and fabrication techniques a plus
- Experience with the processing of ECO’s, deviations and document release preferred.
- Experience with loading firmware on PCA’s a plus.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be capable of conducting independent research.
- Must work well on a team.
- Must have high aptitude for attention to detail.
- Exhibits strong organizational skills.
- Possesses solid writing skills.
- Communicates clearly and effectively.
- Is able to understand and interpret engineering terminology.
- Skilled in both mechanical and electrical preferred.
Education & Certifications
- Minimum of an associate’s degree in engineering technology or similar field, work experience in an engineering technician roll will be evaluated case by case.
Travel & Working Environment
- Ability to travel if necessary.
